Clearly Deion Jones missed the assignment to cover QB on TD run. It is man to man coverage on play with Welter covering running back. The coaches know that Welter is not Lightning quick so they put him on covering the man that would be the slowest to get started. Welter does spend time at the beginning of plays making sure players are in their correct locations, so he has a leadership position.

Let's just say that this is correct....No one will even care because he is the defensive scape goat.

so each defender has a specific ball carrier they are assigned to tackle if he has the ball? Is this the new run-man defense we've been hearing about?

Meh. Even if Welter's assignment was the QB, I find it hard to believe he would have made the tackle one on one.

So lets say your BS is true.. So the RB doesn't get the handoff its Welter's job to then find someone to get blocked by leaving the middle of the field open?

Why doesn't he have more solo tackles if he is constantly in man coverage on the RB?

So you think Jones needed to help the 3 men on the outside cover the receivers. Ya'll need to quit with the hate of one player.

Regardless, a good MLB gets off his "man" and makes the tackle on the qb running straight up the middle. If welter had any sort of speed/athleticism he would have made that tackle. Or at least touched the guy as he ran by.

Look, we don't hate your son, we hate his performance and unexplainable preferential treatment.

He's not always in man coverage just was man coverage on that play. Check the position of all the other backs.

He's not my son, don't know him or any of the players. I think he is in more as a person who helps direct the position of the others players.

I thought the problem was more that the defensive lineman crashed left following the play instead of staying in his lane, leaving a huge hole in the middle of the line.

I used to back up welter but I can't anymore. He is too slow to react on almost every play. Their first play he gets man handled and doesn't even get contact on the rb which is his man. Someone else tackled him and bailed welter out.

You nailed it. That's why we saw Kwon run past Welter to make tackles against MSU.
