LONG overdue! Glad he used the platform he had to get the message out. Ridiculous not having pay for a 3rd coach, and 11.7 scholarships is WAY outdated, has been like that for over 30 years that I can remember. If not 27-30 scholarships then atleast bump it up over 11.7 so they have more to divide.
Many would be surprised at how many REALLY good players played with little to no scholarship money. Either they had academic scholarships or in cases like LA many of them are TOPS eligible, or paid out of pocket 100%.
Its time!

The SEC needs to keep this on the front line until a change is made.
The SEC and other P5 conferences need to leave the NCAA and start their own league. The NCAA serves zero purpose for these power conferences.

t does happen a lot in baseball, but never in football or basketball (that I know of).
Because they are being used for 2 totally different reasons

It’s really hard to dislike that guy.
I wish Duplantis would’ve gotten the record but outside of him I can’t think of a better guy to hold it than Mangum

The total scholarships of 11.5 has been the same since the 60's.

To them why pay for an extra coach when they can use the extra money to travel south because of the cold weather up north? Nobody up there cares more till May.

That's such a meaningless point. There are some programs that support it (I mentioned this myself in my original post). That's very much the exception.
Again, I want what he wants. But, do we have to sit here and pretend that baseball as a sport supports itself?
Baseball is being treated unfairly as compared to women's sports. That's the reality.

College baseball is evolving,” Mangum said. “It is. I just want to let everyone know, it’s time for a third paid assistant coach in college baseball. There’s a million people averaging watching this game. There’s 30,000 people in that stadium. This is my second time in Omaha. It’s time. This game is evolving. It’s growing. Every year it keeps getting bigger.
“In this dugout, on that field, there were 27 players on each team. You start off with 35, you come (to Omaha) with 27. Of those 35, there’s 11.7 on each team on scholarship. Like, man, this game is getting way too big for that.
“These were the best four years of my life, and it’s time to adapt with that. Every year we’ve had assistant coaches that have not been paid who spend hours upon hours upon hours doing all they can for our program, sleeping in the offices, scouting for us, dealing with camps.
“Come on, man. Go out there and watch that game. There’s 30,000 people in that stadium. A million people watching it. Come on. It’s time to change. It really is.”
The perfect stage to get the story out there.
It's a damn shame it hasn't been recalled. There needs to be a 3rd PAID asst coach. Period.

If you frame the argument of more money for baseball as a comparison to football.....baseball will never win. If you frame that argument as a people/player initiative I think one day it will get through.

Who gives a shite? If one school chooses to invest more in one sport, let them. Why handcuff them? Would you be upset if more coaches were allowed for the ice hockey team? I wouldn’t give a shite.

Along with literally every other conference besides the SEC
College baseball is shite nationally. Hold that tournament in Topeka and I 100% guarantee you don't have 30k people in that stadium. Over half of those people are Omaha residents who go because it's literally the biggest event in that city every year.

I want that too, but it'll never happen. It's just not realistic for 95% of schools with a baseball program.

It was not a requirement, they voted against having the option to hire a 3rd paid assistant

I don't think you are understanding.
I want more scholarships for baseball. I want a 3rd baseball coach.
However, there are programs that don't want that because, unlike LSU and other SEC schools, baseball is a pretty big loser for them financially.
