Has CJJ given any inclination as to who will be getting the ball Fri, Sat, Sun? We all kind of assume it's some combination of Jump, Hurd, and Holman. Just curious if we've been given any hints on that.

I don't think anyone assumes that our preseason All-American pitcher won't be in the weekend rotation.

Fri - Hurd
Sat - Holman
Sun - Jump
Mon - ??? maybe Herring or Coleman here

Nate Bumstead
Jake Tompkins

Seriously, every interview Jay mentions Jump, Holman and Hurd but I wouldn't sleep on Ackenhausen or Herring getting a chance and with four games in a row the first two weekends that fourth starter will likely come from one of those two.

Or Cam Johnson

the comments from Jay indicate that Cam Johnson will be brought along slowly and I don't see him starting games right away, maybe he gets a midweek start but if he doesn't have to rush the freshman he won't, similar with Kade Anderson

I see Holman going Sunday and Jump going Saturday. Break up back to back righty.

Pay attention to who pitches in the scrimmages this weekend and what days. That will give you the best hints on who it will be. If Hurd starts today then he will likely be the Friday guy next week. I'm sure they plan to get them on the rest schedule they want starting this week to roll into next week.

My Brother-in-Law played football and graduated from VMI. There’s a movie about VMI during the civil war. When you go to school there you’ll know the movie. He and my sister are coming in for the games. My Brother-in-Law pays ever year for one student to attend VMI.

Oh, the movie …

I got some word, Jump will pitch Saturday. Might find out something at lunchtime.

Agree with BayTiger....I am very curious to see what happens with Jump this weekend. They have not stretched him out at all up to this point. I would feel a lot better if he throws 45 pitches or so this weekend.

Hurd Holman Jump

I’m interested in the reasoning. Is it giving the first nod to Hurd because of the way last year ended?

Or, is Hurd showing something this year that makes him the Fri guy.

Neither would be bad. I just think those are two very different scenarios.

I’ve always thought it was most likely that Holman would be our Fri guy.

I think it's more about each one's ceiling. Hurd has electric stuff. Even when he had trouble with his control last season, you could see the explosion in his fastball and bite in his breaking ball. He's a swing and miss pitcher.

That's not a slight on Holman, he's just a totally different guy. He's the kind of pitcher that won't light up the stat sheet, but he knows how to eat up quality innings. He's a guy that, before you know it, he's in the 6th inning and he's only given up a couple runs. He doesn't have that wow factor of Hurd, or even Jump.

Regardless of who ends up being the Friday guy, it's a luxury that I don't think we have seen in quite some time that we have a lot of frontline options on the weekends.

That’s cool! I admire him for that.
