The Advocate reported that “After LSU’s spring game, Coach Brian Kelly acknowledged the scrimmage gave no indication of who will start at quarterback next season.”

In their reporting Kelly noted “We didn’t clear up anything with the quarterback today. We probably made it even more difficult.”

According to the BR paper, the implications are that all 3 LSU quarterbacks Brennan, Daniel’s and Nussmeier performed well enough to make this a very long drawn out process going into fall camp.

If I’m Kelly, I’m giving all three significant playing time this year. Start the 2023 competition now. Unless we have ny6 bowl potential. Which would be amazing, but I’m not holding my breath.

The one who is not the projected starter next year is the one who’s going to transfer. Very likely that someone transfers after the season this year. Kind of like Johnson did. I would rather have a better idea who is going to play in 2023, let them know, and then let the other guy transfer. Instead of risking the better qb transferring. also gets your starter for next year a lot of experience.

Brennan:

Pros: Rocket Arm, Release, Experience, Accuracy
Cons: Injury History, Mobility, Awareness (could be better now)

Nuss:

Pros: Pocket Presence, Quickest Release, Improvability, Football IQ/Pedigree, Alpha Attitude
Cons: Experience, Gun slinger mentality (forced throws)

Daniels:

Pros: Escapability, Running Threat, Arm strength, Experience
Cons: Accuracy, Consistency, Slender Frame, Leaves pocket too quickly

Just my observations which are not facts. Feel free to add to this or change it on what you’ve observed from the three.

I would have to think if the season started today Coach Kelly would most probably have a starter and backup in mind that he would go with if next Saturday was our first game. Using that kind of language in my opinion is smart so that none of them transfer out.

Having said that Coach Kelly doesn’t mind going to the bullpen when his starter is getting rocked. I’ve been to two games that Kelly yanked an ineffective starter out and stuck someone else in there.

Daniels will be playing every game in some capacity. Could be very tough inside the 20 with that speed.

If Nuss doesn’t think he’s starting next year, he’s gone after the season Max Johnson style. That’s the main transfer time. It’s too easy now.

So find out if you want him to start next year, or if you’re ok with him transferring. Only way to do that is by letting him and Daniels continue the competition. Because one of them is gone.I’d rather it be Kelly who chooses which one.

Let Brennan play too (although I would transfer if I were him). As long as you don’t suck, you get playing time. If you’re not a contender this year (which we’ll know early), start your evaluation and building for 2023.

Best way to control the portal fiasco going on right now. This goes for all positions. You take control back of your roster.

Just my opinion watching the game in TS yesterday: Brennan doesn’t seem to fit in the system they want to run, they want the RPO in the arsenal, and Brennen just cannot do it, it’s not his strength. Nuss runs it well, but Daniel is great at it. They both make the RPO decision so quickly. LSU is gonna need the ability to run the RPO, and our backs look to be strong too.

Accuracy is by far the most important consideration. If you can’t consistently hit a moving target, nothing else matters. Because of this, Brennan gets the call.

See who puts in the most work this offseason, who the team responds too and who has the most mental toughness. Iron sharpens iron and the first one gone with be one who doesn’t put the work in. All 3 are mentally and physically capable so what will seperate them are the intangibles like leadership, mental toughness, understanding how to attack the defense and etc.

Interesting! The defense was stronger in the first half, according to the HC and the media reporters.
Nuss led the offense to two TDs and a Field Goal.
Brennan, 1 TD
Daniels, 1 TD

RPO doesn't require a running QB, if that's what you mean. RPO just means the QB has the option to either hand it off or pull it back and throw it depending on the reaction of his defensive key. Now, if they wanted to run QB zone read, then you're right.
