Not one of his players wanted to concede that game after the 3rd inning. Not one. Sad.

He didn’t concede the game in the 3rd inning, but I don’t expect someone of your intellect to understand that.

He’s also putting some of those guys into high leverage situations to see who can be relied on later in the season.

I mean he kinda did throwing Bucknam out there. I get if there’s gonna be two games tomorrow but that’s not a guarantee so I’m not sure on it but whatever. LSU is still good at baseball

Correct, he did in the 4th.

No they are not. He implies that in order for CJJ’s statement to be true, he must put in his best available pitcher each time he changes pitchers. CJJ’s statement does not mean that he prioritizes the game currently being played over the games the rest of the weekend.

His decision might have been a poor one, and that can be debated, but it does not contradict his statement that they play to win each game.

Jay was not going to throw a top end reliever unless we had the lead. He gambled and it didn’t work. It happens. He was probably hoping that we take the lead or tie it in the top of the 4th and he could have gone to some combination of Edwards, Cooper and herring. It didn’t happen, and we can’t afford to burn those arms with a double header tomorrow. The zone tonight probably had something to do with it as well. Even with top end arms out of the pen, you were not going to hold SCAR with the tight zone.

You can disagree with the reasoning, but it’s pretty clear Johnson’s plan.

I said at the very top of my comment that I am very well aware of the desire to save top arms in a deficit. So yes, I knew what the plan was as soon as Dutton entered. But the 4th inning is too early, again, in my opinion, to give in when you know you have a great offense. And to your point about a tight zone, and thinking we wouldn't have been able to hold them anyway, I'd say that there is a simple way to handle that: You put one of your trusted guys in there, and take an inning by inning approach. If one of them comes in, and things go sideways, you take him out, and then you bring your lesser used arms into the game. Who knows if we can even get two games in tomorrow. That's going to be quite the task.

I don’t think anyone here is qualified to judge Jays decisions after all he has shown us so far.
This dude knows the ins and the outs of what’s going with everyone this is his life. He knows what he needs to do to us get to Omaha.
We will be getting to there one way or another.

What do you do? Having Skenes go 6 or 7 IP makes LSU the #1 team. When he only goes 3, and Ack & Shores are injured, then you basically have 24 innings to cover instead of 21 or 20 with the rest of the staff. If you burn Herring & Edwards and still lose, then you’re probably going to get swept with what you’d have left against a good hitting team like South Carolina.

Now you have Floyd, Little, Edwards, Herring, Cooper, Guidry, Money, Hurd, & Collins to cover 18 innings. Should be plenty of pitching to compete and win the next 2. Need the bats to come through like they usually do with this group.

And you and Magician2 are complete idiots who do nothing but chime in a thread when LSU is losing to sound like y’all know what you’re talking about. Y’all never post in any thread when LSU is looking dominant. So that pretty much tells me that both of y’all are just miserable trolls that can’t find a Woman.

I think the right hedge was starting someone like Cooper that could give you a chance to stretch and stabilize what was a close game.

You have 3 lefties in the pen so it’s not like Cooper is paramount to save imo. That game was close and still plenty winnable last night when it resumed. SC was in the same predicament with pitching to cover a double header the next day.

I will never concede just giving the game away right there, especially with the best lineup in the country. It was a weak move.

A portion of our fanbase absolutely sucks

You're not wrong, but this was more than just losing a game.

This was the first time JJ pissed me off.

I KNOW Micah Bucknam, so not trashing the dude, but why in the ever living hell would you go to Micah with just a 2 run deficit early in the game? It's like he gave up with the game very much in reach. Left him in to rot, then left Hellmers in to make sure we truly rotted.

I know a lot of people don't care for Cooper, but you bring Cooper in after the delay and he finishes the game, saves your pitching staff, and doesn't give up nearly what Micah and Hellmers gave up.

That was a decision that warrants some criticism.

And if we come back and win the series, great. JJ is a solid coach, of that I have no doubt. So I'm not calling him "Jockey Jay" or whatever stupidity that was, but that warranted some criticism.

You do realize there’s a double header today, correct?

Let’s say’s he takes this approach. Anyone who throws 26 pitches is out for today. So, you’re either burning arms for the rest of the series or literally throwing every arm in the pen to have guys available by today. With the latter, you have either Dutton or Bucknam to close it out so you most likely lose the game in late innings. With the former, you burn Cooper, Edwards and either Hurd or Little to get through the 6 innings and then Dutton or Bucknam are pitching high leverage situations today, so you’re losing today.

Now, as someone else has pointed out, the entire front end of the bullpen is available to give you as many innings as you need from them today.

ETA: Apparently it’s not a double header today. It’s a game at 11:00 CST and then a 3rd tomorrow if it’s available to play. Seems like the coaches decided to keep the front end of the pen available today to have all hands on deck for this game since Saturday looks like a wash out there.

What? You think Cooper comes in and shuts them down for 6 innings?

You people are fricking delusional.

What? I said that?

Nope. I said he finishes the game and gives up less than what Micah and Hellmers gave up.

I don't think Cooper is some elite arm, but he can grind and give you innings
