Mashburn has been so underused - he basically saved the 2021 season as a blocker starting in the Florida game.

He had 1 really good game blocking last year but I wouldnt say he "saved the season" because of that. Dude had an incredible day blocking but he hasnt shown to be that kind of guy consistently.
You probably wouldnt believe it but Kole Taylor graded out higher than Mashburn this year at run blocking, and it wasn't even that close (67.7 vs. 57.0).
Kelly knows TEs and I doubt he's underutilizing anyone.

That is really shocking. PFF is useful but sometimes gives you some head scratchers. Any time Mash was in the game I would see his guy go backwards.

Kole really improved a lot as a run blocker over the years:
2020: 48.8
2021: 56.3
2022: 67.7
He has always been bad pass blocking, not that the TEs really do that much anyways though. Kole put on some decent weight which I'm sure helped.

Probably getting the TE from Cincy. Denbrock recruited him and he's in the TP. Heard he is good.

And to think ~10 yrs ago this board was apoplectic when Miles had eight on the roster.

The bigger issue was the majority of them could only block and then we also had another 4-5 fullbacks
On the 2010 roster we had 6 fullbacks and half of them I know for a fact were on scholarship, possibly 4.
Brandon Worle
Jason Slaydon
J.C. Copeland
James Stampley
Richard Dugas
Kellen Theriot
Stampley went on scholarship at some point. Worle, Theriot and Copeland all came in as scholarship players.
Edit - forgot about Stevan Ridley who they also used at FB a number of times

Does Mashburn not have a scholarship? No way he's still a walk on right?

Kyren Lacy had 19 catches in 27 targets for 168 yards, 59 yards after catch, 0 TD(s), 70.37% catch rate
Jack Bech had 14 catches in 20 targets for 157 yards, 54 yards after catch, 1 TD(s), 70% catch rate
Chris Hilton Jr. had 7 catches in 10 targets for 109 yards, 15 yards after catch, 0 TD(s), 70% catch rate
Kayshon Boutte had 42 catches in 62 targets for 431 yards, 163 yards after catch, 1 TD(s), 67.74% catch rate

John Emery Jr. had 11 catches in 17 targets for 123 yards, 124 yards after catch, 2 TD(s), 64.71% catch rate
Brian Thomas Jr. had 25 catches in 39 targets for 306 yards, 132 yards after catch, 4 TD(s), 64.1% catch rate

Because he’s too small to block and has butterfingers to be a receiver?

Bech is sure handed as a WR. He had issues on special teams dropping that kick off and the punt. But as a WR he is solid and makes good YAC

Making room for Arik Gilbert.
