the refusal of the “good ole boys” to make Linda Moorhouse Tiger Band Director and Director of Bands played a major role in the decline of Tiger Band. It was a job for which she was immensely qualified, and which she completely deserved

He was, however, withholding scholarship money from people unless they gave up their earned chair in Wind Ensemble and played in Symphonic Band instead. That's probably what got everybody mad at him in the first place.

Since you don't respect my opinion, and I disagree with yours, I was offering a list of awards (some administered by very respected professionals) the band has received. You can dismiss all of these accolades if you choose, but it makes you sound very foolish.

Bad instrumentation and poor numbers. If what you need is not walking in the door, you MUST GO OUT AND FIND WHAT YOU NEED. That is recruiting. Frank, Linda, and Roy did that for many years. That is how they had the outstanding numbers in the band. They were cutting about 100 students every year just to get to 325! THAT IS NOT HAPPENING NOW.

Anyone can make a car on the field or spell words. How you get in and out of those pictures and letters is the issue. Halftime drill is NOT what is printed on the page, it's what 's INBETWEEN the pages! In other words, it's the movement.

I asked that question for a reason. Much of the criticism of Coach O is that he does not have an adequate resume to qualify for the LSU job. The same applies to Dennis and Damon. Damon was a band director at a school with no football and Dennis was a band director at a high school with 20 kids in the band. This is why I'm more than queezy about their leadership.

It did seem the hire was done in typical LSU fashion these days. Just take the easy way out and promote the assistant on the cheap, even though said assistant had never directed anything above a high school band.
No nationwide search for the best band director possible. In all phases, academics, music, athletics, etc., these days, LSU seems perfectly happy with mediocrity.
