I would not go so far as to say catastrophic. But it would be a failure for this season. Catastrophic is kinda strong. Lol.

LSU needed stability to remain solid and bring in talent to re tool and re build this roster. BK has done that and now is his time to prove how good of a coach he is
Per BK’s request, his year 3 performance suggests he is at LSU what he always was at Notre Dame: an above average coach who isn’t elite and can’t beat elite teams. College Football even expanded the playoffs to give coaches / teams with that pedigree the opportunity to sneak in the playoffs on the back end while not actually being a threat. He couldn’t even make it that far.
If he misses the playoffs this year, not sure anyone will ever trust him again, nor should they.

I dont think its fair to compare the BK teams to miles, orgeron, and Saban. This is not the college football we grew up watching. The NIL transfer portal and now payment from universities has fundamentally changed college football. I think BK and LSU being able to navigate this new college football has been pretty damn remarkable. This new college football is what drove Saban to the broadcast booth. Ill ride with BK

Too much talent was brought in with Nuss's last year for me, BK knows all the receipts are printed.

If Crown is on board with calling this season a catastrophe if we don’t make the playoffs then so am I

You can give him credit and still be skeptical. Is he Miles (great recruiter, program manager, elite talent, in the title conversation every few years) or Dinardo (brought back the magic, had some nice wins, brought in talent, couldn't get over the hump because of lackluster coaching).

He has definitely rebuilt the staff for the NIL era. It is more like an NFL staff than a college staff which is what we need. He also has restocked the talent on the team. We are 2 deep on the Dline with studs and have elite LB this year with an upgrade in the DB. That alone is an improvement but will need to see it on the field. he also was able to keep Nuss and picked up a quality backup in addition to keeping Hurley and has a stable of WR depth that does rival 2019. Not necessarily by individual talent but the depth is undeniable. He won the SEC west his first year with a train wreck and gave us the 2nd QB heisman. Anyone disappointed with him is clueless. So now is the year to prove it on the field. Yes we want to win the first game but it will be a difficult game with an almost all new OLine facing one of the best Dlines in the country on the road . Winning would set the tone but a tough battled loss is not the end of the world with this team. I do expect us to be in the playoffs regardless of the outcome of the Clemson game but there isn't another coach they could have hired back then that would have done a better job than BK has done in my opinion.

Yeah...he took a team that averaged 10 wins a year for 10 years and in 3 years he has averaged 9.5 wins a year with an extra game. Hurray!!!

However - he did make mistakes when he got here - particularly in his hiring. Matt House and the defensive staff looked great on paper but obviously that did not work out. Not keeping Raymond when he got here and not keeping Thomas after his first year are the two killer mistakes that he made. He has rectified those, however, and I believe that this program is on the path to being a consistent top 10 program.
i am not advovating for house by any means, but JD's 1st year of being extremely hesitatnt, the offense sputtering most of the season, house and that D kept LSU alive in the journey to the SECCG. now, the next year, yeah house and the D stunk and change was needed.
also the D line coach leaving after year 1, then the replacement getting ill. no coaching, no recruiting etc.
they are all excuses, from the initial firings and hirings, to wanting to build through HS recruiting (i was initially a fan of this but see how things have change), to shifting to the portal more. BK took over a team\roster that was below water, and if he were to be fired tonight, someone would be stepping into a machine that's ready to roll. he needs to clean some pre-game and in game things up, but overall if you're not happy with the direction he's taken this program in you're just a hater of his and will never be happy.
one thing les never did was change, until it was too late. BK seems to ackowledge mistakes and address them sooner rather than later.

I think he deserves a fair assessment for "what he has done with this program thus far". And , NIL has changed the recruiting landscape but 1) it has changed for every school, not just for BK and 2) the measure of success is still wins and losses. That said, he has done a good job of restoring order to the program and recruiting better talent than he had upon arrival. I think a number of coaches could have accomplished that. He does not grade out above average in hiring coordinators and that has hampered the success of the program. Until now, he has had no championship caliber teams. When you factor in his contract term and the amount he is paid, his performance has been a little disappointing. You have to grade on the curve because of his contract. But objectively, this season is more promising than any of his prior years here.

Kelly has done an infinitely better job of maintaining a stable program than Orgeron did. Orgeron was on such a downtrend that god knows if he even would have been able to achieve a .500 record in 22’, 23’ and 24’. From a stability standpoint, Kelly has been much better and anyone denying this is a fricking moron. The only question is whether or not he can get over the hump and take the program to a new level of competitiveness.

Denbrock left after one year.
No he didn't

When Denbrock left, he searched the world over and came up with Joe Sloan.
Also not how it hapened. Kelly wanted to make Sloan co OC and Denbrock got his feelings hurt and left. There really wasn't much of a search.

He hasn't used Perkins properly
Fair but Perkins is the one that wanted to play ILB. You tell him no and he might transfer.

He said the other day he wanted Trey'Dez to be an "complete" TE...moving guys from the LOS blocking. Why?
If there is a single position where Kelly shouuld get the benfit of the doub tit should be TE. His teams ALWAYS have great TEs that are utilized.
WIth all that glazing I just did, I will say that its playoffs or bust this year. If he goes 9-3 again, his seat should be ON FIRE.

I would say it would depend on how we are 9-3. Is it due to a Nuss injury or one or two of our starting Oline. Did we get a bad call that cost us a game. And in the SEC in this new age 9-3 doesn't mean you don't go to the playoffs. I truly expect us to go 10-2. 11-1 if it's a great team. But I'm not calling for his seat if we lose a close competitive game to Clemson on the road.
