Like I said you have to have guys you can rely on out the pen to either keep a game close if you're behind or protect a lead if you're ahead. If Cowan and or Evans aren't available we don't have that
This is the norm across college baseball right now, it isn't just LSU.
The days of stacking 5-7 solid relievers are over.
Texas is statistically the best pitching team in the conference and their fans believe their staff isn't deep enough, just like fans here.

Not if they let tenner load the bases every inning.

He had an SEC ERA of 5.76
You forget because he was awesome in Omaha.

Ack, Cooper, Herring, Guidry and Hurd were better then than literally every bullpen arm we have now not named Evans and Cowan
Holy revisionist history. What were their ERAs?
Again you’ve completely blotted out what happened that season because they all were awesome in Omaha.
and again, I started my
post saying, on May 1 2023
who did you trust?

SEC Stats:
Herring: 5.19 ERA, 15 BB/HBP in 17.1 IP
Guidry: 5.40 ERA, 8 BB/HBP in 11.2 IP
Cooper: 5.70 ERA, good control but 32 H in 23.1 IP
Ack: 9.00 ERA
Hurd: 13.81 ERA

This isn't based off of just last night.
I don't think our offense is good enough to mask our pitching. shite can happen and someone could go on a tear, it's happened before.

This is a good, not great team.
LSU is a great team. There are just 8 other great teams in the SEC. Wide picture, they've only really lost to great teams.
The losses to Texas and Tennessee have gone the same way. Missed pitch here and there.

I don’t have much faith in this team making a deep postseason run.
I can tell you this, no team is going to want to face LSU in the postseason either lol. You all have zero perspective.

This is a high floor, low ceiling team.
They have a bunch of great role players but they don’t have any true stars. Bear is tremendous if he’s playing second or better yet third fiddle but not as top dog, not enough contact. Dickinson Milam Curiel great in their roles but not capable of really carrying the team (yet). Braswell, Stanfield Hernandez solid SEC average type players. Then Jay has Frey, Brown, Person, Larson completely off balance, little true production from DH/RF as a result unfortunately. And they’ve got 4-5 great pitchers then a really steep drop.
Success for this team is Omaha but not enough horsepower for a natty unless everything starts clicking (Bear, RF/DH, bullpen) at once, which is unlikely.
Should add… we should be happy with this as baseline. We have some star power and are capable of beating anyone anywhere. The team seems to genuinely like the game and each other. If you take out bullpen woes they’re really fun to watch. I’d take this 4 years out of 5 with a deep run possible 1 of 5 realistically.

Oof
Curiel can be great
So can a couple pitchers, maybe
Otherwise, the terms “great”, “stars” etc get thrown around way too much by fan boys

You were making the same exact posts in 2023, and that LSU team ended up winning a championship. Here are some of the gems. You do not know what you are watching.
quote:
He’s the Lincoln Riley of college baseball.
Good offense but soft and not much to offer on the other side of the ball.
quote:.
But that’s what Jockey Jay is.
It’s like complaining because Lincoln Riley has a great offense but can’t stop a nose bleed on defense.
That’s what we hired

Jays pitching decisions leave much to be desired

Way to give up on your team, coach
quote:
Pretty weak stuff by Jay
quote:
Thanks for ruining my Thursday viewing with these practice squad pitchers Jay
quote:
2-run deficit in the 3rd and he elects to accept an L so that he can save pitching for a double header?
Horse shite Jockey Jay
quote:
14 hits on day 2 to an average team
No bueno

shite performance
quote:
We walk so many batters they know when it’s going to happen now
quote:
Don’t get cocky after you can’t beat Arkansas, Tenn and South Carolina 3 straight weeks
quote:
And the lack of confidence is back like clock work
quote:
Can’t buy a sweep
quote:
Morgan tends to have a lot of games where a defender could stand in the same exact spot and catch 3 of his fly outs. It’s wild
quote:
Dylan looks like ‘22 Milazzo right now. Doesn’t even wanna swing
quote:
It’d be nice to score without having to hit HRs
quote:
Agree. Other than occasional bunts we don’t even attempt to manufacture runs. Its power or bust
quote:
Our base running is pure trash

If Jays teams don’t hit HRs they usually lose

Head scratching decision by Juicy Jay

Jay doesn’t care as long as he hits some bombs

Jockey Jay Likes to ride the horses that run the fastest
No room for finesse or strategy, just pure whippin’ and drivin’

Pitching? It’s not ideal but we have a much, much bigger problem.
Posted on 4/27/25 at 11:01 am to Broski
no way vols going to come into our home turf and pull out the series win
home field advantage is huge in this league, too much to overcome for any away opponent
atleast that’s what i read on trant over the years when lsu goes on the road and loses

We’ve swept a top 15 team in the road this year.

I stand behind all of those comments

Offense is the issue
I’d put pitching depth as our #1 problem.
But it’s impossible to ignore the offense the past 3 or 4 weeks. This team isn’t swinging it like it was earlier in the year. And 4 weeks isn’t a slump. That’s real.

No nope noda. Not a great team. At least not yet. At least on April 27th at 11:40 am they not.
Good team? Yes very much so but not a team that's where it needs to be right now.
