Honestly with what we had, we competed. Only coaching issues I had was the 4th and inches call where we have the best O-line in the SEC and passed the ball, and never adjusted to the QB scramble. We definitely need a new defensive staff, but if the fans are not impressed with the job Kelly has done to this point after having 39 scholarship players and 2 back to back .500 seasons I don’t know what to tell them, we played for the SEC championship in year 1 and competed for it this year. IMO that’s amazing. Not many schools could accomplish that. Florida was in a similar situation and look at them.

This rebuild was always going to take multiple seasons, but I agree with everyone’s frustrations on the defensive coaching and play. There’s no excuse for how poorly we’ve looked. No one is asking for the 85 bears. Middle of the pack in the SEC is attainable right now though.

I agree we are trending in the right direction offensively, but defensively we have not made any progress. It is doubtful that we will be able to field a championship level defense next year. So at this point it will take Kelley at least 4 years to be competitive for a championship. I doubt that was his expectation coming in, so its concerning.

We’ll see when we don’t have 5, 8, and 11.

I 100% agree with the defense, it’s all time bad, but most schools are having to build both sides of the ball to championship level and we only have to build 1. We are a spoiled fan base that never appreciates the good.

I never thought I’d be wishing for the days where I was hoping for a complete offense. Having zero faith in our defense to stop a drive makes it hard to watch games.

The only coaching issue I had was why wasn't Kelly screaming in faces of refs after his star QB was targeted and put out of game.

If we had targeted Ala. QB Saban would have ranted for 15 min until he had our player ejected.

Kelly is a soft serve ice cream coach with no fire even when his star QB was targeted.

100% agree. we are technically 1+ year into this rebuild. this class coming up in december (hopefully we finish strong with some DL's and CB's) will be his first full cycle. we are actually competing with teams\coaches who are 16 years ahead of us (bama) and 2+ years ahead of us (FSU\OM). its excuses, but its relevant when you don't have a ton of talent NOR depth.....and that is where we are. hopefully staff changes are made to energize the current players and bring some recruits in, we need them.

We do NOT have middle of the pack defensive talent. That is not attainable.

The team plays with no attitude. No one took up for their QB after the big hit vs Bama. No one took up for Daniels last year in the SECCG after Carter picked him up like a child. Perkins got shoved in the back by a fricking holder earlier in the game. Penn's big hit was the first hard hit I've seen from this defense all year. I like a lot of what Kelly is doing, but he needs to get some attitude and physicality back on our team if we're going to play with Bama and UGA.

This is under the assumption the offense maintains this level of play next season....which is won't....because of key personnel losses.

Next year LSU is going to have a new starting QB. That is likely Nussmeier. Yes, we've all seen the flashes. But if/when he takes the field vs. USC next season it will be only his 2nd career start. Compare that with Daniels who, when he opened this season, was making his 44th career start.

LSU is also going to lose their top 3 WRs. To put that in context, only 2 other WRs besides those three have a catch this year...Anderson and Hilton. And they have a combined 19

LSU is likely to lose Josh Williams. They may lose Logan Diggs (who is in his 3rd season). Then you have to factor in the loss of Daniels who has essentially handled a RB load in terms of carries.

So yes, LSU didn't have to "build" an offense this year. But they will have to do so next. Thus, it is entirely possible the defense could be much improved next season and the W/L record will be about the same as this year...because LSU will be very inexperienced on offense.

That's what makes this season beyond disappointing. Kelly will likely never have a better offense. All the LSU defense had to be is average and this is likely a playoff team. Instead, the staff has guided them to being one of the worst in the country.

We have the horses on offense to be top 10 in the nation perennially, we just gotta get this defense figured out and I honestly think it’s another 2 year build for the defense.

Kansas football program was in much much worse shape than LSU when Kelly got here. Kansas is having a better season than LSU. Enough with the excuses.

When was his 1st start-- Jontrae Kirklin started the 2022 Texas Bowl. I don't think Nuss has yet started any game.

Well, he may get his shot Saturday vs Florida.

And most of those "horses" will be gone after this season. Daniels has been unbelievable. I think Nussmeier can be a good QB. But you are losing a guy who can quickly turn nothing into a 40 yard gain. Nuss can't do that.

Nabers has put himself among the past great LSU WRs. Thomas has been very good as well. Hell, when he catches the ball Lacy has been really good.

Next year LSU returns Anderson...who has yet to do anything in his college career, Hilton, who has struggled to stay healthy, and freshman who haven't played a significant down. I don't think anyone can predict LSU will be top 10 nationally.

LSU can still be good next season. But this was one of those rare years where the pieces of talent and experience all fell into place. Just like in 2013 and 2019.

I think everyone's frustration is that for years we had top 20 defenses in the country and couldn't move the ball for shite prior to 2019....this year we have the best offense in the country and probably the 2nd best offense in LSU history but a defense that causes us to lose games in spite of that highly successful offense.

I think its a problem people thought we would never have here at LSU....its a shitty problem to have to be frank...guys like Jaden Daniels don't come around often.
