We appear to have a good problem to have at safety next to benefield

Many assumed Cooley would be locked into the other safety roll but 2 days into fall camp Jhase Thomas has been ahead of him. Seem to have some very good competitive depth at that position. Thomas is a super talented young guy who’s just a true sophomore. He’s longer, faster and a better overall athlete than Cooley his ceiling is def higher.
Obviously Cooley brings more experience to the table but it could end up being a similar situation to last year when pj woodland beat out a guy who was a full time starter the year prior in Ashton stamps. Will be interesting to see how that battle ends regardless Jhase will def see snaps this year.

I like Jhase's potential as well but still too early to take anything away from 2 short segments from 2 days of practice. One thing is true though, they are rewarding the work Jhase has put in the offseason.

I also think Cooley played some Nickel at NC State so they could be using him there as well to be closer to the box

Play the best players. Cooley was a JAG last year. He needs to play better to lock anything up
Thomas is a guy who has nfl pedigree and went through a position change & some body development. Not all the shocking

A lot of people shite on Cooley but I thought he played well last year.

Cooley was average on a good defense. the reason he looked great was because we were used to watching guys like sage Ryan the years before and it was terrible.

He was better the year before at his previous school in a nickel type role. He’s not a trad safety imo

There will be at least 4 more threads on this in the coming days.
All just so original

none of us know his potential or even barely talked about him a few days ago
You also havent seen him play since HS if that. Why does everyone always try to sound "in the know"

Spears probably has the higher ceiling so all for it.

We have the best secondary in the SEC

Jhase Thomas has been ahead of him
Its crazy how anybody can come to this conclusion after two opening days of Fall Camp in helmets and shorts.
Guys at rotational positions (usually DT, Safety, WR2 & 3) will rotate from 1st team & 2nd team for at least the first week of camp. Thats not uncommon lol.
You probably wont get a feel for who will be the first 22 until the end of week 2.
Now I am happy to see guys like Thomas get some reps. I feel like a lot of our HS signees are forgotten and we tend to focus on the newest portable addition.

That isn't sounding "in the know." Did anyone know he was going to line up in the 1's in a few drills? No. If I said that, then that would be trying to sound " in the know." Take your issues up with someone else there guy.

Are getting this from the media watching 10 mins of drills?

This will only make the position and Cooley better.
