Yes, it's way too early. First series means nothing. But 3-0, a ton of runs, a ton of strikeouts, minimal errors--all good.

Guidry and Williams to me looked to have starter make stuff this weekend, so Evans/Moore/Schmidt will have to remain sharp to stay there.
Sheerin is my close the door guy along with Rizy, love their demeanor on the mound.
It's 1 appearance but wanted to see more from Paz than we saw. Got knocked around and missed the zone and bit as well.
Dardar probably needs to start at 2B
Expect we'll see Noot tomorrow as starter vs. Kent St

With the "way too early" tag, my thoughts:
Hitting is overall good, but their first couple guys in the first two games held us down pretty well. Could be early season sluggishness, could indicate that we're going to struggle at times.
Not enough data on any of the fielding really, even with the way too early tag. Very very few difficult opportunities. Most of their balls in play were ones that we had no chance to field or more or less routine. Milam had a pretty good play but we already know hes great there so it doesn't really reveal anything. Jake brown dropped a ball in the sun, which brings back some ptsd flashbacks, but I'm not going to roast him over it.
Pitching did struggle at times, and while they definitely consistently overpowered the batters, they also let up runs throughout, even guys who are expected (and needed) to be really really good. It does give some concern that they're going to struggle when the completion ramps up. I dont think we have a truly top end guy at this time, but I think if this staff is going to get us across the finishline its going to just be an arsenal of really good arms one after another.
In terms of other stuff, we didn't attempt many stolen bases which it seems every year we hear how we're going to steal more and havent. We didn't really bunt much and that seemed to be a trend early and often last year. Not sure what to take from that.
All in all I think next weekend will give us a lot better idea of who and where we are.

Watching the rest of CBB and I couldn’t be any less concerned.
This. If you are just strictly looking at teams physically, LSU looks like a minor league team. I’m really impressed with Arrambide, Serna, Braun, Sheerin,Guidry, Carraway, & Dardar. This team has a ton of potential. Jay has turned this program into a damn powerhouse

These guys can swing the bats and we are deep. Pitching was good, not great, but it is early and the staff will continue to get better. Gavin Guidry looked fantastic.

No disrespect to Yorke, but not sure how you surmise this based on the weekend series. I believe his lone hit was a homerun in the opening game on Friday. I hope your are correct and that he is a great hitter, but he didn't have a great weekend a the plate. I'm hoping he can hit close to his average from last year.

Yea, he appeared to take some really good pitches early on in counts, his bat speed does seem elite tho. I think he's gonna see a ton of breaking balls until he proves he can hit them. He popped up a ton of pitches. That seemed to be the strategy as the weekend progressed.

Yea, great point, Brown and several others had opportunities and it never looked like it was even an option. Especially with all the off speed stuff they threw all weekend.

My thoughts is LSU will lead the nation in strikeouts again. The only pitching stat that translate to championships for us. Pitching that many and breaking the record for strikeouts in a series should scare everybody. Enjoy the ride

I would much more focus on our starting pitching.
That's what is gonna decide how successful we are this season.
So far a decent start, save for the 1 bad inning by Evans.

It was good to see the "old white headed peanut eating man" behind the right handed batter has made another season...

I think the point to be taken from the "Yorke is a great hitter" comment is that he is NOT just a big dude who either hits homers or strikes out. All 3 years at Grand Canyon, he had a pretty good walk rate and a very low K rate. He will be a guy who will take his walks, stay in the zone, work counts, and use a lot of the field.

Too early to take anything away from the team except they have talent and like to compete. For an opening weekend it was good to see the amount the amount of players take the field and have success. Time will tell how the season plays out for the team.

We'll know after a few more weeks.

Last years unit didn’t look like a natty unit, until suddenly it was.
I think they have a lot of talented pitchers. I think they will be strong enough when the time comes.
I think the team overall is talented enough to win a natty. Will they?
Idk yet….
Yep. Last year's natty team was swept by Auburn and run ruled by Northwestern.
All I know is that Jay will have his team ready to compete at the end of the season.

I am basing it off the fact that he looks like Mo Vaughn, so you would guess that he is just up there swinging for the fences. He actually has a great approach and isn’t an all or nothing hitter. He walked 4 times, and was hit twice. But yes, he did pop out a few times on pitches that were hit able.
