Was the clemson player warned about leading with the crown?

saw this posted but didn't see a link.

It looked like he lead with the crown on the hit on Burrow in the 2nd quarter (last TD). The hit in the second quarter should NOT have been a penalty, totally clean, but he puts his head straight down when he hits Burrow in the left arm, then ribs.

If he was, it's interesting and puts the ejection into a little better context.

Edit for clarification:

We don't need better context. It was clearly a targeting penalty. It took the review booth 30 seconds to see it.

I think that rule is more about he tackler than the person being tackled. Putting your head down like a spear and going in with such force is a recipe for a cervical injury. Tough lesson to learn, but pick your head up or to the side.

Agreed...for clarification it was a textbook targeting penalty.

That linebacker was a beast, solidified the win when he went out IMO.

By rule it was targeting.

Sucked for Clemson but that's the rule, like it or not.

Rule needs to be changed. Kid should not have been ejected IMO. 15 yard penalty yes. But unless he gets it called twice, no ejection IMO. This has hurt us in the past too.

Never heard of him before last night but he was on fire. Have to admit that I was glad to see him go. Dude was living in our back field.

Agreed - Now #44 from Oklahoma's hit on CEH warranted immediate disqualification from the game...

So you get one free targetting every game? Nonsense. If you can't keep your head up you need to get off the field.

Should have been ejected for leading with the crown on the Burrow hit as well. Also, with or without him, Clemson was going down. We scored another TD within the next play or two of him going out.

Yeah that dude was scary good. I’m not gonna lie, I yelled with excitement when he was ejected even though I think the rule is chicken shite.

I would guess you would feel a bit different had Chaisson, Delpit, or Stephens been called for similar hits with their crown over the course of the game. Fans shouldn't pile on that kid for that, we were fortunate not to get a flag or two thrown on the good guys last night. Lose any of those three guys with how Aranda had them helping on the TE and those WRs and who knows. Still win, but I don't think Clemson has a quarter and a half cold spell that seals the game, and they are one of those teams you don't want thinking they have a chance late in a game.

They should change it to two unintentional targeting calls to get ejected...One egregious one and you are gone. So #44 for Oklahoma on CEH gone...The linebacker for Clemson would not have been ejected, but it would have been a 15 yard foul. The stakes are just too high for this to happen....remember Devin White

If you lower your head and hit someone in the head neck area I don't care what uniform you wear. That was nothing like the Devin White facemask to facemask touch or like any other inadvertent helmet contact. The Clemson player was tired and started using his helmet to spear instead of tackling. He needed to go.

Cannot lead with the crown of your helmet and that is part of the wording in the "protection of players".

I do remember Devin White. Didn't lower his head at all.

No. Not cervical.
