It's clearly evident Herman was using us to get more money out of UT.

How many good up and coming coaches, much less established coaches, want to work for "The Search"?

How many want to live in a bassackwards state that can't figure how to properly fund research institutions, yet seems to have plenty of money to fund colleges with single digit grad rates?

How many want to also work for a system and campus president that clearly doesn't give two craps about athletics?

We have veterans that are fat and lazy. We have very little player leadership (I think Etling tries, but the players don't respect him). We had a ton of experience transfer out of the program.

O may be in over his head... but Aranda and Canada didn't forget how to coach. We have little to no healthy veteran talent.

Firing O tomorrow won't change a thing. Firing O at the end of the season, without also firing the AD won't change much either. We can't trust our AD to handle another coaching search.

The entire football operation needs an enema. We need a new AD, who will hire a new coach to come in and clean house.

I think everyone mostly agrees that both need to go. Anything else?

He wasn’t even the easy way out.

In the hierarchy of decision-making, there’s three options.
- good decision
- bad decision
- no decision.

I can live with taking a chance on a young unproven coach. The last two worked out pretty well.

O was no decision. O required no effort from the AD. And then he added insult to injury by putting job insurance in the form of that horseshite buyout.

You can pay coordinators as much as you want but at the end of the day they’re just coordinators. This entire model was destined to fail from the start. When your HC just chuckles and admits he’s basically an idiot that has to surround himself with smarter folks well that’s not good.

There are 100 coaches that would’ve been better.

At least.

is this a real question?

We hired our DL coach. The only way O was "the best we could do" would be if ALL other current HC's were uninterested, as were nearly all other competent coordinators...college and NFL.

Honestly...I'm not sure how far down the board you'd have to go to even GET to Ed, realistically, yet we act like he ought to have been #3, at least.

Special Ed was a lazy, uninformed hire, propagated by a couple of worthless fricks at a radio station.

There were a lot of viable rumors about what kind of coach might have been interested in the LSU job.

We'll never really know what happened. It's possible, though unlikely, that Alleva called a whole lot of coaches and got turned down.

I struggle to believe a coach like Larry Fedora chose to stay at UNC, for example, instead of coming to LSU if offered.

Some day, someone will write a book about the horrifically botched 2016 coaching search. It'll make for a fascinating read.

First, a HC sets the tone for the entire program. We 100% could be found someone better.

Secondly...thinking Canada was some great coach was almost as bad as the O hire to begin with.

There are several quality coaches we could have gotten.

The bottom line right now is we need someone to light a fire under the players. O is afraid to be passionate since his Ole Miss days. Aranda isn't a firey person. We need energy and passion out there. O needs to get over than mental block he got now.

And this is no exaggeration.

People continually act as if these are the following potential coaches:

Gundy
Herman
Fisher
Kiffen...

there are, as you say, literally a hundred if not more coaches that are more qualified to coach LSU football than O.

Mickey McCarty at Neville high school would be a slam dunk in comparison to O....and I am only just kinda joking.

Is it? Did we counter after Texas was involved? If that was hermans goal...give him your best offer and see what happens. Worst case was...you don't get herman but you make Texas pay a crazy amount for him.

Alleva was scared of UT

No, that is not what we need. We need someone capable of coaching football to them. We dont need rah rah rabbble rrabblle horseshite, we dont need fricking theme days, we dont need short fun practices, we dont need a fire. We need FOOTBALL COACHING.

We'll never know because our mentally challenged AD refused to even interview another candidate.

Even if we didnt, our AD obviously bought into a con artist and his pitch.

He ignored us shitting the bed against two quality teams that we played.

He hired a person that couldnt get a job at a FCS school as a coordinator.

There is a reason he did not get the job at USC, he was beat out by Helton who is only being saved at the moment by Darnold's qb play. I think when Jimbo and Herman were out of play we settled with O.
