re: Was 2023 to Jay Johnson what 2019 was to Ed Oregon?

Why do you people insist on bringing up shite Jay Johnson did at Arizona.
This is about two coaches at a talent rich program who had absolute freaks of natures dropped into their lap

The 2023 team had a lot of depth. Guys like Riley Cooper really stepped up in the postseason.

Absolutely. Every year that he didn’t have skenes and crews has been a failure has yet to develop players and certainly hasn’t developed the bullpen ever since he’s been here

This same take would've been downvoted to oblivion last night lmfao

I think you can put this argument to rest now right?
Posted on 6/9/25 at 12:24 am to Mats86
It was never a real argument just a bunch of dumbasses blowing smoke out their arse.

Well, outside of 2023, Jay hasn't made it to a super regional and it's now iffy this year. That's an issue with the resources and talent we have.

Jay Johnson went and recruited Skenes. Who was the freak that Orgeron got dropped in his lap? Burrow? Lol.
Burrow was good but not a "freak of nature". If he was, he would have had more than Cincinnati and LSU recruiting him and OSU would not have let him go.
Skenes was recruited by Johnson and the program helped him get here. He knew Johnson could develop him as a pitcher to get to the Majors.
You are a shite poster. My guess you will be hiding for a month.

2 trips to Omaha in 4 years.
4 total trips to Omaha in the last 9 years (8 seasons due to covid)
Even in a down year after losing so many players he was an out or two from hosting a Super Regional.
Basically Omaha every other year.
But yet he's coach O according to some around here. Tired of the disrespect. .

What? Ed Orgeron proved he was nothing more than a career dline coach. He has never proven he can consistently win in cfb as a HC. Jay has had HC success at 2 different P5 programs. He took Arizona to the cws finals in 2016 and back to the cws in 2021.
Ed orgeron HC resume consists of 1 great year at lsu and the worst tenure ever at a program full of shite tenures at Ole Miss.

This is my exact thoughts about the difference between Skenes and Burrow. Skenes is truly a generational if not a couple of generations type of pitcher. His flat out talent for baseball is better than Burrows talent in football. Burrow is really smart, has worked extremely hard, and deserves EVERY bit of the accolades he receives. Skenes on the other hand was born with gifts that can’t be taught. Don’t get this twisted and take it as me saying Skenes doesn’t work hard. He does. He was/will be a fighter pilot in the Air Force. So he’s VERY, VERY high speed and on his shite. He just has god given gifts in his selected sport that Burrow doesn’t have.

I'm not replying to you, but more on the idea of Skenes and LSU winning a Championship because of him.
I have never seen a winning coach get discredited for winning a Championship over one or two great players like I have with Jay. Not talking about O. I am talking about consistent winners. It's baffling to me. The teams LSU had to beat to win that Championship were absolutely STACKED as well. Tennessee, Wake, and Florida had elite talent. Somehow Jay is discredited for having elite talent by some. It's bizarre to me. Also, he deserves credit for making Skenes focus on pitching full time. He had the all the tools, but they turned him into an absolute monster.
Are other coaches getting the same treatment? It's weird to me to see a coach get no credit by his own fan base. LSU likely doesn't even win a Championship without Cooper Riley. He could have and probably should have been the MVP of the CWS. They all played a huge role. I take so much satisfaction in LSU winning the Championship series over Florida without ever even needing to pitch Skenes, because of some LSU fans that continue to discredit Jay's accomplishments. It's so frustrating to me.
There isn't a single coach I would take over Jay Johnson. I am thankful LSU has him.

I completely agree with you! Our 2023 team was a LOT more than just Skenes. I’m also with you about our fans bashing on JJ for having elite talent. After all, that’s what we expect from an LSU coach! You aren’t winning anything without elite talent! He actually gets the most out of our elite talent, as evidenced by him winning a natty in his 2nd year and has us back in the CWS this year. This comment was just my opinion on the difference between our two greatest players in all sports over the last 50 years.
Posted on 6/9/25 at 2:14 am to beauchristopher
BTW, the only coach in my option that deserves the criticism JJ gets is Gene Chizik. He’s the definition of a bad coach who had a generational type talent fall in his lap!

I just wanted to bump this so the OP can read how stupid was the comment.

These people with these ridiculous comparisons.
Let's not forget as well that Jay just reloaded and got BACK to Omaha AGAIN.

These threads are great. It’s always the same handful of regular posters who show themselves plus a bunch of trolls you rarely ever see or hear from on the board. I doubt any of those posters making such comparisons will be around today.
