when does a defensive tackle run a 40?

It's about judging overall athleticism.

His RAS is elite for a reason. He's not the freak he was made out to be, but he's a top tier athlete for his height/arms

That’s what the cone drills, vertical, broad jump, etc. are for. 40 yards is a random distance to run for a defensive tackle. It’s irrelevant. Why not a 15 or 25 yard dash? 40 yards is not a good representation for a d-lineman.

with bad tape isn't gonna get him anywhere near the 3rd round.
He'll get drafted no later than the second round. It's even more likely he gets drafted in the first round.

lol

3rd round is best case scenario unless someone is just drafting him off hype

He didn’t have a better career here than Neil Ferrel or Rashsrd Lawrence

Like I mentioned. Second round at worst.

Smith was at his best with LSU in a 3-DL DE role in my opinion. That time may pique the interest of teams for that type of role. He has potential as a pass rusher in a role like that, but I think he needs to develop a more powerful bull rush. He definitely needs to play the run a lot better than he did this past season.

Jefferson should have stayed. He would have had the opportunity to make a lot of plays, and accumulate production and film.
Now the D-line is kind of depleted, and that's not going to help the transition of Perkins back inside, if that's what they do with him.
Sai'vion Jones has experience, but he really got moved a lot for a big DE.

Way more upside than either

Gonna be 21 at the start of the NFL season where a guy like Braden Fiske will almost be 25yo lol.

Tyrann Mathieu had a RAS od 3.94 in college. Think that says everything you need to know about RAS scores.

And no earlier than 5th, but he should absolutely go 7th at the earliest. He lacked explosion, looked out of shape, and honestly it look like he quit on plays quite often.

It measures athleticism, not if you will be a good player or not. Sometimes they are synonymous, sometimes they aren’t.

Not the greatest double down in message board history but I guess that made sense in your head, huh?

I think he was out of elligability.

He played 4 years and then had a covid year. the only year that he could have redshirted was the covid year.

Didn't know that one of the best defensive playmers in LSU history wasn't an athlete.

I had seen somewhere that he "declared". So that implies eligibility, but yeah, it sounds like he was at his limit. I have no idea with some of these guys with all the transfers and COVID years.

40 yards is the standard distance for everyone.

It shows fluidity and overall body control in addition to certain explosive traits (the 10 and 20-yard splits flow from the 40).

He's never been seen as a plus athlete by rational evaluators. He's also very small.

Being small an less explosive than ideal doesn't mean you have no NFL future. Some inferior athletes excel in the NFL.

Smith's issue is cutting and moving side to side, not straight-line running.

Even his straight line speed is slow.
