Sad to see the history from tiger stadium be removed. The fact our stadium was a dorm made it uniquely different from everyone else.

I've always thought LSU could make a fortune leasing those out as crash pads for alumni. It could be awesome.

I forget the exact details but I think they were originally built as athletic dorms as a loophole to get financing for the stadium or to expand it, circa HPL era

The fact that our stadium was a dorm hasn't changed.

Pretty sure Huey P had them built because the legislature wouldn't give him money for a stadium, but they would for dorms. So, he had the dorms built and put bleachers on the backside with a field.

This is true. I'm pretty sure every Tiger fan knows that, too

The original stadium dorms were built with WPA (federal depression relief funds) monies to provide barracks space for ROTC cadets...that's the official reason, LOL

other than removing what I'll assume were antiquated dorms, what was the point of clearing out that space?

This created a lot of dead space that wasn't being utilized. It now gives them a new location for vendors and concessions to be added: $$$

Yea, they were nasty. I went in some about 2 years ago when the stadium was empty and it was pretty bad. Cool to go in them and see some of the chalk boards still up and some of the things that were on them. Also, some of the old stickers on the wall were neat too.

Not to mention all the gay porn magazines and empty 40oz's in brown paper bags. Those fricker were a haven for homeless dudes at least at some point. I use to work for the LSU Sportshop back in the day and we used a few of those rooms as storage. But i would go looking around once i was up in there. You come upon a site like that you get a little uneasy and GTFO.

To give fans more room to have sex in the stadium after hours.

I knew it was inevitable, but still sad as my dad lived in those when he went to LSU. He passed away in 2000. I used to always look up at his room window when we went to games.

Looks great! I have high hopes for that space...beer garden, restaurant, gathering space...everything's possible now.

Those dorms needed to be gutted
if you saw inside you would know why

That's what I've heard.

Anyone have pictures of the inside when they were still in use, or after they became vacant? I've always been curious.

I still love the fact that Huey P Long made a dormatory with a football stadium attached to it as a loophole to fund Tiger Stadium. Every Man A King!

I hope they plan on covering up the underside of the ramp. The exposed pipes underneath looks really bad.

Baby steps, I guess.
