College football is committing suicide.

Not taking up for the player, but there is a difference between leaving to get a better offer and leaving because the school didn't fulfill their end of an agreed upon bargain, which is what the player claimed happened here.

There's gonna end up being union contracts...

This if far from a job and a dumb analogy. Do you have a clue on the expenses that each student athlete takes on for the athletic department? Athletes should just reap profits without any expense? This is an employee mindset. As a business owner, this is comical.
If this is how you view college athletics? Shouldn’t they have to pay for their room/board/meals/clothing/training costs? Let’s just invoice them back since they are virtually independent contractors. A 1099 at the end of the year is already happening.

If you promised your employee c amount of dollars and room, board and benefits, you can’t just say “oh well you get benefits” when you don’t pay them.

College players are essentially free agents after every season. Could you image how fricked up the NFL and other pro sports would be if every player was a free agent after every season? Something needs to be done.

Again, who said that’s even true? Great way to place all blame on UNLV and not himself. Guy wants a payday, that’s cool. But I’ll never get behind quitting on your team.
We are entering a very dangerous place in college athletics, where we are starting to see virtual hold outs due to pay for play. It’s not NIL

Funny how no one is responding to this post but is commenting on how he is probably wanting more money even though he is getting a free education and has his living expenses paid for, and deals aren't made directly with university personnel.
Now it sounds like the deal was offered by a staffer, was made directly with UNLV, and did not provide coverage of living further disputing others' claims that he has his housing covered.
I also can't imagine $3000 covers moving expenses from Massachusetts to Las Vegas

We need contracts to protect the players and the teams

Think about the kids playing at Southeastern or Nichols or Arkansas Monticello or Delta state or Mississippi Gulf Coast that would sprint through a burning house for a chance to just be on scholarship and nothing else at LSU or Ohio St or USC.
I hate that the top 3% of football players among all the divisions(and the universities, are going to ruin what was such an amazing game with such deep traditions.

It seems just less likely this guy thinks he’s getting a better pay day quitting 3 weeks in than he did when he was transfering.
It seems way more likely he got there and was like “where is my money”
