Why is ULL able to call themselves UL when it was agreed upon that both them and ULM would use the last letter. USL was much more fitting for those fools. They will NEVER, AND I REPEAT , NEVER be up to LSU in anything. Hell they can’t keep up with Mcneese in most things

University of Lafayette would be way cooler and an appropriate way to use "UL"

We're LSU. Who gives a damn? This is something that a LaTech or ULM fan would bitch about.

They can call themselves whatever they want, but their official name is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, no matter how much they leave the Lafayette part off.

Edit: at the idiots downvoting this. The university's official website even states their name is University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Don't know why all of these directional schools aren't called the University of Louisiana at .....? They're all run by the same Board of Regents.

Have to do with this?

You do know "LSU" is an acronym for Louisiana State University, right? Not the University of Louisiana. So it's not like ULL or UL is stealing any "valor" from LSU by calling themselves UL? Kind of a weird flex to bring LSU into the conversation.

As to them calling themselves the "University of Louisiana" it's just marketing solely for the athletic dept.

quote:

"ULS (University of Louisiana System) policy requires both school's abbreviated names to include the municipality, precluding the use of "UL" alone. In 2013, (then president) Sandra Woodley stated that the policy does not address stand-alone usage of "Louisiana" including within athletics, where usage of particular monikers and acronyms became a point of contention. Soon after, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's athletic moniker became the "Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns."

The system president said they weren't prohibited from using UL for their athletic program. So they did. ULM should have been proactive.

Amazed that “UL” is that much of a trigger. They can keep doing it for all I care—makes this place goofy.

Because they had the willpower to keep doing it, regardless... and...

We lacked the willpower to oppose them.

ULL ignored the ruling, found every loophole to exploit it... and kept the fight up until everyone just gave in and said it wasn't worth it to oppose them.

I'm as pro-LSU as it gets... but they took us all to school on that. We should learn from them.

has the name change done anything to change the status or relevancy for that school in lafayette

I would say no but if they can get satisfaction by putting Louisiana across their athletic uniforms then let them have their fun

Why is this worth your time, or effort to even think about?

Much less post about….
