You can be have different thresholds for voting. I'm on a board with 1 other guy that represent our company. We can veto transactions/investments over $10m that require consensus, but others we cannot.

It's more complicated than that, but that's the gist.

Basically, we don't have "control" unless there is something that requires consensus and we can be a thorn.

Who knows what this setup will be like.

Maybe using explicit was wrong...

I'm suggesting the PE group would more likely purchase a small minority share of a commercial joint venture with LSU that pools commercial operations like ticketing, licensing, sponsorships, and NIL sales into a separate for-profit entity. LSU keeps full operational and athletic control, including decisions on coaching staffs and student-athletes. The PE group merely gets a share of the profits.

We’ve been firing the CEO every few years anyway, so we’re already in PE mode.

A PE firm of boosters contributes $100m and they own 10% of LSU athletics, get some voting rights, and get 10% of profits going forward.

(all made up numbers)

Yeah that ain't how PE firms do it. They either want control or a guaranteed minimal rate of return (or both). And either would mean they'd have undue influence over LSU athletics operations. They pretty much suck the life out of customer experience and employee quality of life.

Without the university name and representation a league without the brand of the universities will never make it. A “minor” league would fold in 5 years. I guess if there is a way to still incorporate the history of the universities then maybe.

Reaction isn’t something that’s off the table.. in the world of raise money, at all costs, this isn’t completely out of the question. There is nothing good that ever comes from private equity touching anything.

Lmfao fair enough. Having dealt with these institutions numerous occasions over the years I never have a good outlook when they are involved.

Why? I'm just playing devil's advocate here, not directly attacking you btw.

If you sell to private equity, they want a return on their money. They are only buying a piece because they believe that 10% of LSU athletics is worth more than what you are selling it to them for.

So either big changes are made that hurt the fans(get more money), or you sold off a piece that PE makes more money off of which you could have just had if you didn't sell it. Is LSU in dire need of a cash influx right now? If not, then you don't sell off your future for money now.

Yes, they’ll be a partnership to keep the brand in order to keep the built in fanbases. You’ll have the separation we know is coming where the mega conf teams will breakaway from the rest and that will be the league. Whichever group ends up buying it will bring the salary structures and regulations in. I don’t like it but it’s already happening.

What’s odd to me is that as polarizing as Landry has been the one topic he’s been golden on is LSU. Most of the thread thinks he’s turning us into ULM when it’s been a glorious year of decision making.
