You are upset that we had travel to Texas and Clemson first. Do I have that correct? Is that all you are upset about? You think Verge should be fired for that alone?

No, thanks to either of the VA schools.
Clemson is way more "SEC" then UVA or VA Tech...
UVA would fit in the Big10 and VT would fit in Big12, but they don't fit in the SEC...in my opinion.

If we lose to Clemson? Absolutely

Verge needs to be fired immediately
Did Verge sleep with your wife? I understand you are not too fond of him for whatever reason you people tend to hold grudges but to place blame on him for something that's out of his control is just plain dumb. Clemson joining this conference is not a Verge decision, that falls on Stankey desk. I'm sure these types of decisions take time; however, you'll get your wish to see Clemson in TS, and you can yell and spew expletives while drinking your stadium beers.

So if the Clemson game was in Baton Rouge this year and we lost, would you still call for Verge to be fired?

There are too many teams now.
It’s a hot mess getting worse.

No. Because he would have done his job right.
We’ve played ZERO opening games in Tiger Stadium the last 5 years

I've got good news for you. Next year, we open the season with Clemson coming to Baton Rouge.

So are you upset with the fact that we play "neutral site" games as well?

Simply not true. Virginia Tech people are rabid fans throughout Virginia
I am from Louisiana and lived in Virginia 17 years so I know what I am talking about. I traveled every corner of the state for work and the fan passion for college football cant touch Louisiana or any SEC state. They are bigger NFL fans there.

That's just too many damn teams

frick all these other schools trying to join. We DO NOT need them. Texas, Oklahoma, Mizzou, and A&M can leave for all I care. They needed us.
Stop the madness. Oregon is not a Big 10 and Cal Berkeley should never be in the fricking Atlantic coast conference to play the likes of Miami

Agree 100%. The rumor is that Roy Kramer in the first round of SEC expansion had UNC at the top of his list. I think it would be a great add.

LSU related because watch Clemson join and not have to play in Baton Rouge next year as our OOC

We played Texas week 2.
In 2019. And, then, of course, the return trip got wiped out by COVID, and Texas never made it here. When they get here, it will be a mandated conference game.

UCLA week 4.
On the return trip (three years after LSU VISITED UCLA to start the series, BTW), and played USC in Las Vegas in Week 1 of the same season. The year LSU played at UCLA, it was in Week 1.

FSU had to come to Louisiana first. Wisconsin had to come down south first.

For future series, SMU has to come to LSU first. Arizona State has to come to LSU first as well.
I mentioned SMU; in fact, I literally wrote "Inb4: SMU comes here for the first game of its series."
Congratulations. Here's also hoping the Arizona State game actually happens since the last time, the home game got wiped out by Katrina and moved to Tempe. The return game never happened. And that was 20 years ago.
You either have reading comprehension issues, or you're intentionally obtuse. Better luck next time.

A good negotiator would have ensured Clemson played in Baton Rouge first. We are the bigger brand and swing the bigger stick
Who gives a frick
LSU football is a much bigger brand than UCLA. Why the frick did LSU go there first? The reason it matters is in case the other school gets panicky and delays the return visit or cancels the return game. Virginia Tech pushed its return to LSU from 2004 to 2007 because it didn't want to get stuck with 6 home games in 2004. So defending national champion LSU was left trying to find an opponent for its opener less than year before it was supposed to happen.
Virginia Tech game moved from 2004 to 2007
What happens if Clemson all of a sudden gets a blockbuster financial offer to open next season against someone else at home or at neutral site? It would drop LSU like a bad habit and leave LSU to deal with the fallout.
That's why you negotiate to get the first game of the home series.
And I could go further into 2021 and 2022 where LSU got outfoxed and played openers against teams who played Week 0 games, but I'll quit while I'm ahead.

If that happens it won't for a few years, probably until the early 2030s

Ah yes, fire Verge for not anticipating Covid!!! Draco said that we should demand that Clemson come here first because we are the bigger brand. If he wants to use that methodology, we were right to go to Texas first. they are a bigger brand.

Ok. What's your point?

Ah, yes. Games in New Orleans and Green Bay are very neutral...

Sounds like you more so have a problem with once in a lifetime events...
What is your actual gripe? Is it playing big games in week 1? Is is playing those games at neutral sites? Is it traveling to other places first?
Posted on 7/25/25 at 11:08 am to Draco Malfoy
The conference is unwieldy as it is.
Posted on 7/25/25 at 11:11 am to LSBoosie
Back to your poor reading comprehension, I see.
I told you: Play good opponents, but don't play them in Week 1, and negotiate to get the first home game of a series. And quit playing neutral-site games.
You must be a friend or a relative the way you defend Verge. But you have me confused with someone else because I'm not calling for Verge to be fired. I haven't mentioned Verge's name once in any of my posts in this thread until this one. I don't think he solely sets the scheduling philosophy. I think that also has a lot of input from the athletic director and the head coach.
My point is to schedule smart. Playing at Clemson is great. Playing there in Week 1 is not great. Getting the return home game instead of the initial home game is also not great. LSU is a bigger football brand than Clemson. I just explained a few posts up why it's not ideal to play the first game of the series on the road. I'm not going through it again just because you don't know how to read, you're dense or you're intentionally obtuse.
Are you playing on your home field? No. Did Florida State have more fans in New Orleans than it would have in Baton Rouge? Abso-freakin-lutley. Did that possibly affect the blocked PAT at the end of the game that finished a 1-point loss? Abso-freakin-lutley.
