1) you need a 20 million dollar bank roll to buy championship caliber roster. Even Ryan day couldn’t mess it up. He tried but talent prevailed. (He coaches like Les miles imo. Very conservative with a lead. Plays not to lose vs to win)

2) N.D. Is who they have always been. Good, not great. The rest of college football took a step backward and ND still a double digit loser.

Seems like OSU is mostly recruited talent, with a few holes plugged with transfers. That model is probably much better for college football than the wholesale purchasing of a roster, with huge turnover every year. If a team like Ole Miss had won ( I know but just hear me out) that would have been a disaster for the sport.

They still bought those recruits as well. However, I agree that model is better than a new roster every year.

OSU took their foot off the gas WAAAYYY too early. Stopped doing what worked for them, let ND come back, and lost all momentum. I'll never understand why coaches think it's smart to stop doing what worked, and then telegraph runs up the middle just to burn some clock.

If they don't complete that long pass to Smith on 3rd and long, ND gets the ball back with a chance to tie.

If they did, Ryan Day would be getting correctly destroyed for his extremely conservative strategy the last quarter and a half.

Could be worse, could be Texas and spend 20 mil and not win it.

But they said Marcus could do what Kelly couldn't.

He went into a soft coverage defense with only rushing four mostly and sometimes 3 too.

And 12 is too many for playoffs; eight is enough. Hell, Ohio and ND played sixteen games.

Except Ohio State wouldn’t even have made the field if it were only 8 teams with 5 automatic bids to conference champions. 8 is enough without the auto bids, but the conferences never would have agreed to expansion without them.

It’s why you need strength of schedule. Indiana, Boise,SMU, and Clemson were not top 4,5,6,7, or 8 teams. Bring back the bcs formula. It was accurate in figuring out the two best teams. USC was the only complainer. The problem was it was only two teams. Not that those three weren’t good. It can figure 8 or 12.

You have to pay no matter where they come from. OSU pays more.

Everything about the playoffs removes the idiot msm writers from the equation. It’s why you have to have 12 teams minimum and possibly 16 imo.

The worst part was that isn’t what they did at all. They were blitzing aggressively in some stupid situations.

If you are going to go conservative on offense, then do so on defense. Being up 24 midway through the 3rd means don’t give up big plays and make them spend 6 minutes on drives.

or, you just keep doing what you've been doing all game (after the first drive) to completely shut ND down.

Why play soft D and give up long TD drives? Why not keep playing aggressive defense and give up NO touchdown drives?

OSU was utterly dominating, both on offense and defense. Why they'd make ANY change to that is hard to fathom.

To #s 1 and 2 in the OP, I would add it's a more forgiving era than ever before. Would tOSU had even made a four team playoff?

They have to get rid of the automatic bids.

They aren’t going to reduce the size of the field or eliminate automatic bids. Those were the price of expansion and they aren’t going back unless/until the SEC and Big 10 break away.
