If they were only staying for Cannizaro then good riddance. I would have thought they decided to come back because of the potential of the team and the fact they get to play for LSU one more time not for a hitting coach exclusively.

Tulane's AD takes a national approach to finding coaches. Don't be surprised if it's neither of them. Coaches don't need to have Tulane ties for him to go after them.

I fully agree with this...

of course not. but they're obviously two of the frontrunners.

Riser and Cannizaro are easy names to mention here although I wouldn't call them frontrunners only because they are coaches we are familiar with.

Today, I would put the odds like this:

Riser-SLU 25%

Cannizaro-LSU 15%

Coach from "national search" 60%

Dean-UNO 0%

Roger Cador-SU 0%

Smoke Laval-N FL 0%

Joe Scheuermann-Delgado has the same chance of getting the Tulane job as Demie Mainieri.

No offense but you have no sense of reality if you don't think he is ready.

Bring a recruiting coordinator at LSU for 2 years gives you plenty of enough experience. Dude has connects all over the country through that as well as scouting & Pro baseball.

Him and Riser are neck and neck. They don't need a national search

No, I don't want to lose C, but even so, I don't think he'd be Tulane's first choice.

I think the Greenies would look for the same type of coach as Pierce was at SHSU--a coach with success as a HC at a smaller program.

Tulane has fallen to where baseball is rather pedestrian, but they were, and should be, a national power.

They didn't build Turchin to sit empty come regional time.

Do they turn to C if they can't find what they are looking for?

Maybe, but I hope not.

FWIW, on the Tulane boards, someone claims that "AC already submitted his resume."

As he should. I doubt that he's their best candidate. Also, he's just as likely as Pierce to leave them for a major program in 2 years.

If I'm #Tulane, my 1st call is to #LSU assistant Andy Cannizaro - recruiting dynamo, talented hitting coach, Tulane alum. Dream job for him.

from an editor and national writer for @D1Baseball.

but but but no head coaching experience!!!!

Tulane is his dream job, family is local, he would be there for a while.

Tulane can pussyfoot but they know this will be the only chance to hire someone of his caliber. Yes he's "green" but they'll have to risk that if they want him and they know it.

#Tulane will do an exhaustive search for a new head coach, but I would look extremely hard at @LSUbaseball’s Andy Cannizaro. Not hard.

The nice thing bout being called unrational is that one of us will be proven wrong soon enough. If it is I, then, so be it. But I do not see my arguments as being unrational, rather, just not being in tune with what & who Tulane is looking for in a HC. He's crazy not to apply but that in & of itself means squat. As for T.Walker, I am assuming he's happy in N.La. & not all that anxious to get involved with the daily grind of being a college baseball coach.

If Rick Jones or Jim Schossenagle were asked who they would recommend as the next Tulane coach-- they would say Cannizaro. Zero doubt in their minds. He would be on a short list of one. Why -- he would stay for life.

He's already at a major program that's an annual contender

This argument is pure stupidity. Skip is the exception to almost every rule when it comes to coaching.

I can tell you for a fact that Skip basically ran the program for at least his last 4 years at Miami. Ron Fraser focused on fund-raising. Skip was the pitching coach and handled my recruitment. When I got a scholarship offer, it came from Skip. I shook hands with Fraser one time in passing as he was on his way to play tennis with some deep pocketed benefactor. When I made my college decision, it was Skip who I called to tell.....who by the way laughed his arse off because a Miami kid told him he was signing with LSU. At the time he got the LSU job, Skip was more qualified to be a head coach than 98% of the guys who were already head coaches.

Can we point out to all the fire CPM crowd that Texas just had to hire Tulane's coach. Pierce is a fine coach and no disrespect to him he could be a home run hire at Texas but if LSU fire someone like CPM and hired someone like Pierce that would be a major fail.

That whole month long coaching search was a disaster. Pretty embarrassing for Texas. The rant would be going nuts if y'all had a search like that

Skip was a head coach at that high school in Florida. Had the team practice carrying him around the diamond for when they won the state championship.

I believe Pierce was their seventh choice if I've counted correctly.

In no particular order they wanted the head coach at LSU, Oregon State, Virginia, Florida, TCU, Louisville and finally Tulane. (And eighth coach if the rumors about Corbin at Vandy are true.)
