Woodward won't be the problem. Nor will the boosters.

I'd be more concerned about our woke governor, president, and BOS screwing it up.

I'll very disappointed if we get the shite beat out of us by UF and nothing is done. Especially with Ole Miss that will put 60+ on us just because.

I could have hired Jimbo fisher with a blank check and no restrictions on contract negotiations.

I love these threads

It’s where we all get to see the posters that are more qualified than SW to handle duties of an AD

Could you have hired Chris Peterson and Mulkey?

There is no switchover this season.

That's my point. I am in the boat that we're better off without O.

Do you feel as though Woodward will thoroughly vet each option, conduct proper interviews, and hire the guy he thinks is best suited for the position?

Yes, unquestionably.

But I am getting nervous he isn't making the right call in terms of letting O go at the right time. Damage is being done.

My point is the “switchover” Isn’t happening till after the last game of the season.

If I had to place money on it, that is where my money would go.

I trust not only that he’ll do it well, but it won’t be a shite show “search” like we saw in 2016 or any other time.

Look at his track record for hires, here at LSU and prior - the dude goes whale hunting and he lands them. This might be his single best skill as AD. It may not be your first choice, it ain’t likely to be Saban, but I trust Woodward will conduct a thorough search, vet good candidates, and make a hire with name identity that will do a great job for LSU. And he may well do it without us knowing a thing about it until he’s ready.

The earliest it will be done is after Ole Miss, since there is 2 weeks before you play Bama.

You look at his success and hires at universities prior and I feel pretty good about it. Chris Peterson, Jimbo Fisher, Kim Mulkey, Jay Johnson, etc. Also look at the success he was at Washington. I was looking at the Wikipedia of the amount of stuff he got built and the revenue generated. Very impressive. I also didn't know that Mark Emmert hired him at Washington. So Emmert knows him and worked with him before and brought him up there.

Woodward is legit.

I think the question is whether the money folks behind LSU make the right call and how much Woodward is hamstrung

Petersen went from Boise to Seattle (where he has deep ties) for a lot of money with no ceiling. It was probably the only school that could have attracted him. Kim came home. Both were great hires, to be sure, but heavily assisted by the intangibles of home. Maybe that's just part of the SW approach..

I agree wholeheartedly!!

I think the search will be much like the baseball search. There will be a LOT of big names who (through their representation) quiet express interest. Some of that will no doubt SOLELY be to leverage LSU's "interest" in those coaches against the coach's current school in an effort to negotiate a new, better, more lucrative contract. Others will look at it as a true opportunity to reach the top of the college football mountain...and make a ton of money doing it (similar to the baseball search)

The athletic dept. probably won't leak much, if anything (though I'm sure agents will). Still, hard news on the search will be pretty scarce. Woodward will focus on coaches who are proven at the highest level. That means a guy like Napier, or even P5 assistants will be down the list...if on it at all.

A real concern is if the administration "pushes" the AD to look for other qualities of a new HC besides SOELY merit. Likewise, do they shy away from guys who have past "moral issues"? If so, that probably starts to limit the field of potential hires.

I think Bob Stoops and Chris Petersen will get calls to gauge their interest. I think both are happily retired, or at least don't want to get into the pressure cooker that is the LSU job (at least Petersen). Urban Myer likely would have gotten a call because I think even without the butthole digging incident he was quickly realizing the NFL ain't for him. It could have been a perfect Saban to Alabama situation. Unfortunately, there are going to be some (maybe many) in the admin who don't want to even consider him...despite the fact he is the most proven winner.

Sexton will float Jimbo's name out there...but that is just to squeeze A&M more. Hugh Freeze will desperately want the job...but the BOS will end that quickly. Fickell will think about it...but stay at Cincy...with a new deal. Gundy's people will express interest....again. Brian Kelly may inquire, knowing that he can't get over the Alabama/Clemson/OSU hump at ND...but he won't be a fit.

Ultimately, I think serious consideration will be given to Kiffin and James Franklin. Franklin would get the stamp of approval...if he would actually want to leave PA. Kiffin would leave OM...but the admins will have big concerns. Bob Stoops fits Woodward's profile. Proven at a high level.
