No one’s arguing that. It’s just weird you didn’t mention that he was coming back from a season ending injury and limited offseason. Maybe nothing to do with it, but a pretty important nugget.

He’s serviceable. Not great, but not awful.

Maybe. Not how I remember it. Seems like he was on the field strictly for pass pro most times. Our OL was terrible for most of the year. Hard for any RB to block the beasts in the SEC coming at them off the edge untouched.

I hope it’s everything to do with it. I hope he’s the stud he was supposed to be coming out of high school. But he wasn’t here in the spring, so I’m not sure what’s happened to assume he’ll be the same dude he was pre-injury. I’m all for being hopeful and optimistic, I just don’t think we can expect it. Perhaps a lot of my concern is thinking we’re gonna have to be able to run the ball effectively to take pressure off whoever winds up starting at QB.

I admit I’m not entirely comfortable with a grand total of just four running backs and really no proven commodities.

Emery could bust out and be a superstar. I hope like hell he does. But he has not proven he can be a bellwether running back.

I do have a lot of confidence in this coaching staff. And I hope like heck the injury bug doesn’t bite the running back stable.

He may not be cut out for college. That might be the whole problem.

This is all I’m saying. I didn’t expect a ton of production out of Bradford anyway, maybe catch a few passes a game out of the backfield. I thought Emery and Goodwin would get 75% of the touches anyway. If healthy. That’s the rub. Hell, maybe Emery turns into Clyde and barely comes off the field all season. That’s just not been the norm. RBs get knicked and miss time every year. Let’s cross our fingers for no significant injuries.

The issue with Emery, Cain, and Goodwin is they have all proven to be injury prone. If we start seeing some nicked ankles suddenly we’re playing some walk-on white kid at RB

Cain averaged 3.3 ypc last year with over 100 carries. I hope we’re not counting on him to get a bunch of touches. This is bad news, and I’ll be curious to find out what the deal is.

Some of you guys just can't help yourselves

This either a grades or rules issue. No way he just left for another school with his potential for PT

I’m not saying he won’t, or shouldn’t have a nice role, I just think if we find ourselves having to give him the ball 20 times a game somehow, that’s not ideal. He’s clearly not the same dude after his knee injury.

Penn State’s OL was just as bad as LSU’s last year. Hell TDP’s avg rush was in the low 3s before the Kentucky and FL games. Cain has loads of potential and usually the 2nd year after a knee injury is when you’re 100% confident in it again. Emery, Cain, Goodwin and Williams can carry the load.

How’s it deep? We have three total backs now, two of which didn’t play last year.

FWIW I count four on scholarship:
John Emery Jr.
Noah Cain
Armoni Goodwin
Josh Williams

Also, Malachi Lane is a talented PWO

Not good at all.

Emery, Goodwin, and Cain have had injury issues and Emery couldn’t stay eligible last year.

Well that’s not his career average… he averaged 5.3 as a freshman.

Penn St as a team simply struggled to run consistently last year. They were worse than we were running the ball. I wouldn’t put that all on Cain
