We need to bring back American Legion baseball at Howell Park and learn some fundamentals. While learning life lessons at the same time, like don’t do crack

As a “travel ball dad” I can tell you my son was taught all of those things. There’s always that one or two dumbass dads out there but 90% are just normal baseball dads that love to watch our boys play. Besides if your son doesn’t play travel ball in our area, good luck making the high school team unless he’s a super athlete. There’s a noticeable difference in skill level due to just reps.

As a travel ball coach I can tell you that fundamentals and situation ball is what we go over the most.

Dumb post but I understand what the OP is trying to say here. Same thing exists in AAU for basketball.

I don’t think the OP has a clear view of the actual legit criticizm of travel ball. I had a conversation with Coach Robicheaux at UL a few years ago about travel ball versus little league for young players. Coach preferred little league kids because they have to win to advance. They develop a scrappy attitude with a strong desire to win in post season from an early age. LSU has recruited a lot of these kids over the years as well. Travel ball guarantees the same number of games, win or lose.

I was a travel ball coach 15 years we started bunting at 8 and practiced it first thing every practice..it was 2nd nature to them.

Just curious, does your kid play any sports other than baseball?

I see both points but there is no doubt that tournament ball kids get more repetitions and as long as you are continually teaching then they benefit.

I called a bunt with runners on second and third this am in a travel ball tournament. My fat batter popped the bunt up and they doubled us up. I was furious and started throwing stuff in the dugout yelling “stop playing like LSU” to my players

But I think it is probably safe to assume that, except for the all star team players, travel ball players have a higher average skill level.

Would agree because as coaches we want to coach the better players.

I think Robichaux is a good coach, but what do you mean he doesn’t “put up with” travel ball? I’d guess 95% of the ULL roster played travel ball, simply because that’s what the higher skilled kids do these days. (Not that I think this is the best system we can come up with, btw)

It would be weird if they had a fall and spring to work on these things..oh wait they do. It all falls on PM. He has made two good hires in twelve years at LSU. AD and AC. The rest were good ole boy hires.
