re: Top Offensive Coordinators If Canada Jumps Ship

Enos is available now and has SECW experience. Plus, his approach probably fits well with LSU's strength. Powerful run blocking OL and big WR's.
Kendal Briles would completely change the LSU offense (maybe a good thing?) Plus, he has deep ties in Texas which is THE state for QB play. Just look at the top 10. It's littered with Texas QB's: Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama, TCU.

The offense ran at a high level with him last year. We should absolutely do a search, but he’s not a bad option.
Except against Bama. That was the problem with every other offense we had. It did not succeed against Bama. I would say do it if we have the Canada playbook and keep it to build on. Taking a step back to what doesn't work against Bama would be the beginning of the end.
We have offense now. We really just needed consistent play a QB. This Saturday, we saw what this team could be with high-level QB play. The idea of starting over with a new offensive philosophy would be a huge set back, IMO.
Auburn still beat Alabama with motion and using the jet sweep a few times. This is the easiest way to keep a team like Bama honest.

If Canada goes I assume it's because Coach O and he couldn't get along and based on Canada's history and reputation I can't put all of that blame on Coach O. It seems to me a lot of coaching staff success hinges on their ability to work together and having familiarity with each other; that's a big reason as to why Coach O held out so long for Kiffin and, if you will remember, hired Canada shortly after Kiffin got the head coaching job at FAU and Brennan decommitted because we didn't have an OC, and later admitted he did that to force O's hand.
So if Canada doesn't work out I'd look for Coach O to go get someone he's had a working relationship with at any of his earlier coaching stops in the past- whether Arkansas, Syracuse, USC, Ole Miss, Miami, etc. or maybe take a relatively unknown coach based on the recommendations of a trusted peer who he has worked with in the past.

Ensminger did do a solid job generally as OC last season, but not so much against Florida and Alabama. I believe he will be the new OC if Canada leaves, but I'd much prefer that Canada stay on for a few more years.

He did write the book on "linebacking."

Art Briles!!!!!! Can you imagine LSU’s offense!
Almost worth it for the sleepless nights it would cause the angry little man from West Virginia.

We scored 10 points.
We've got to get better at scoring against teams other than Texas A&M (ETA: And, for the record, we should have gotten into the 60s against aTm - anemic performance in the redzone, plus kicking problems took between 10 and 17 - maybe more - points off the board). We didn't lose to Florida in 2016 because we didn't have a "productive" offense. We lost because we couldn't score.
Hell, for that matter, we've scored 10 points in the last 2 games against Alabama (despite having a slightly more productive offense than they did in 2017).
300 yards of total offense implies you've scored between 18 and 30 points (IMHO).
We have to get better at scoring, even if Canada stays, period.

If no one wants your coordinators, there is usually a reason.

We would go winless in conference. Sarcasm?
With his statement about knowing what kind of offense he wants, what came to mind immediately is that he should want the kind of offense that moved well against Alabama which is what you already seem to have.

So, I'm asking out of sheer ignorance here, but what is with this love affair with Ensminger? Two major questions arise for me when people throw his name around:
1. Is that a position he really even wants? In an interview with the Advocate last year, Ensminger was quoted as saying: "I was doing it for our school, our state and Coach O. That’s it. I could care less about being the offensive coordinator at LSU. I told him that."
LINK
2. How much longer does Ensminger have in the game (he turns 60 next year)? Do we really want to go through 3 offensive coordinators in 3 or 4 years? There's got to be a younger, innovative offensive mind that LSU could pull... who would give this system some stability.
Some food for thought... I'll hang up and hear what you've got to say.

I hope Canada stays, but this is something that we will face year after year during the O experiment. And with Aranda also. As far as Ensminger is concerened, how many schools came calling for his OC services during the off season?
Posted on 11/27/17 at 3:53 pm to Ponchy Tiger
Didn't Ensminger give an interview earlier this season saying he did the OC job last fall as a favor to O, but he had no interest in doing it long term.
Pretty sure I saw it on DandyDon FWIW.
The man doesn't even want the gig and O is talking about giving it to him?

Choose carefully rant. We all know Pomansky got Canada's name from TD and brought it to Orgeron.

I agree with this. Did everyone expect a top 10 offense this year really? Top 25 even. The QB and the O-line were governors that made such impossible. Etling had a great game against A&M, but failed against the Gumps. What happened at MSU? Was Ceauxch 0 meddling with things at that time as well. Dunno. Is Canada difficult to live with? Maybe, but Ceauxch 0 seems like a real horse's A$$ who does not understand his own limitations. As so-called professionals, they need to work it out for the good of the program and for their own good as well. People do it all the dang time.

I don't think Orgeron has a bunch of names for OC in his rolodex. How else do we end up with Canada, someone he didn't even know or have any connection with beforehand?

Eliah Drinkwitz from NC State would be a decent hire. They had a really nice balanced offense this year,.
Is also, ironically, the guy they hired to replace Canada
