Understood, but Va Tech is not a 2nd tier program

Dafuq. You must have some weird tiers.

If Alabama, OSU, Texas, Michigan, USC, Florida, Notre Dame, LSU, FSU, etc are tier 1, VaTech is definitely not in that tier and more like tier 2 or 3.

LSU is a different animal, I'm not sure Herman is ready for this kind of job.

What about Chad Morris and he could bring in Venables to run defense.

Amazing how that has been the criticism of every single coordinator under Miles except maybe Crowton his first year and Jimbo 2001. Seems to be one constant in all that.

What would be the constant? Couldn't be Les. 2001...just sayin.

How the fuch would Chad Morris be a better option than Tom Herman?

ETA: Herman/Houston beat Morris/SMU straight up 49-28.

I do not want Jimbo. I remember that he was not well liked when he was here for being too conservative. He hasn't changed much in that regard. Tom Hermann is my #1 choice. Alleva better move quick.

You're quickly losing all credibility. It would take a coward and moron to take the Va Tech job over LSU.

All I'm saying is that Va Tech has all the intangibles to become a consistent top 10-15 program. Michigan State is in the same category and was mediocre before Dantonio took over.

It's all a moot point anyway. The job is Jimbo's if he wants it and I think he's a better fit.

Why would anyone take less money for a possible top 10-15 job that right now is much closer to 25, over a job that is easily top 10?

It's not if Jimbo says no.

I agree. I really like Herman more than I do Jimbo. Like many of you, my only real concern is the lack of head coaching experience, though he's been part of a big program and the biggest game at Ohio State.

Any hire, regardless of the guy we get, has a certain amount of risk. Imagine the melt if we had been beaten by a bad Georgia Tech team like Jimbo was this season. Jimbo is good, he's steady, but I love the potential with Herman.

If we hire Tom Herman what are the odds we can get Ed Oliver to flip to LSU? Probably not alot because i think there was another reason he committed there.

Herman has a 10-year record as an OC. Ten. Yes, he's only been a head coach for a year, but he seems to be doing pretty awesome there. His resume is better than Gus Malzahn's when he got hired at Auburn (1 year HC, 5 year OC). But check out the offensive rankings at Ohio St...

Scoring/Total Offense/Yds Per Play
2011 79/107/88

2012 21/46/33
2013 3/7/5
2014 5/9/6

2015 36/48/29

Those are Ohio St's ranking in Scoring O, Total O, and YPP. 2011 is before he got there, 2015 is after he left. The middle part is his tenure.

The guys is a superstar. And he can recruit.

Herman is the best choice IMO, but he's holding out for Texas right?

Herman runs whatever is most advantageous to his personnel. Against Bama in '14 he came out in I-forms, Spread and Pistol formations. Saban literally had no answer. He has ran majority out of the spread because of his athletic QB's though (Braxton Miller, JT Barrett, Cardale Jones and Greg Ward Jr.).

The rumor is that he isn't going to a 2nd/3rd tier program (USCe or Mizzou) because he believes if he continues to improve a top tier (UT, LSU or USCw) would come calling.

I believe Herman would accept if we offered.

I didn't even watch the OSU vs 'Bama game because I assumed 'Bama was going to crush Ohio State.

Herman was able to implement an I-Form...? In an Urban Meyers offense?

They came out in a different formations every drive, you could see the Bama LBer's over adjusting. It was beautiful.

Well, on that note... screw it. My opinion is meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

I think Fisher/Kelly are #1(a) and #1(b) - but Herman is #2, and a damned strong #2, at that.
