Post and go routes.
Nussmeier has the arm.
Is it timing or lack of separation with receivers? Every one is 10 yard overthrow.

Agree. Connected on none of his drop passes. Something seems off.

This has been a thing all year, but he has hit a few. Dime to Parker last week comes to mind.

I think probably JD was just really good at throwing over the top & we got a little spoiled. May take some time to refine that part of his game.

My guess is it is a 50/50 thing. Nuss from a timing perspective and I don’t know that we have a receiver with Thomas or Nabors speed who can take the top off a defense?

Jayden Daniels broke PFF records for deep pass accuracy. We were beyond spoiled.

I noticed a few to Daniels and Lacy where he placed it past the DB but the WR didn’t get there. Those two are good WR but not burners.

While Jayden was incredible last year so were his WR, including elite speed.

I could be wrong but it wouldn’t surprise me if neither lacy nor Daniel’s rub sub 4.5 at the combine, while Nabers and Thomas were both sub 4.4

I was trying to let him down gently lol. Nuss is throwing for like 400 yds per game, it’s hard to know how much the diminished deep threat is on him vs WR personnel vs maybe it’s just “pretty okay” this year vs “unstoppable” last year.

WR talent is not close to last year. Jayden missed a lot of deep passes his first year starting as well. He learned to give his WR a chance to make the play. Nuss doesn’t have a WR as good as Nabors or Thomas but he has missed a few deep throws. He’ll learn like Jayden did.

On the one to Lacy, he ran his route too flat. If he runs to goalpost, it's a td.

Nuss has to put more air on the deep throw and allow the WR to win the battle, even if it's a bit under thrown. Especially when it's 1v1. Lacy and Daniels have the size to win those. With Parker and Anderson he needs to be more precise.

Bro the receivers have been open. Nuss has overthrown them by 10+ yards sometimes. It’s Nuss’s timing.

It has been surprising that we’ve had no real deep ball connections.

At the beginning of the season I thought if nothing else, we’ll always have the deep ball possibility with Nuss and our receivers.

You can be open and not track the ball or adjust to the ball in air.. I see this a lot. Not as much as overthrow but still needs to be mentioned

Chris Hilton is hurt. Once he is back and healthy you will see some of these deep shots being hit more often.

Hilton and Nuss spent a lot of time together last year and this year working on those routes. And during summer and fall camp they were connecting on a lot of these deep routes. Once Hilton is back, you will see a bunch of other routes open up underneath and over the top because the attention the defense is going to need to place on Hilton on those deep routes is going to free someone else up. Losing Hilton was significant because he was the main deep threat on the team. He is just different then every other receiver we have in the rotation.

They are open to the point where 1st Rd QBs should have several TDs otherwise

A year ago people wanted to bench JD because he couldn’t read a defense or throw the deep ball

They have had separation a couple times this year, but honestly, I've watched two games from up on 50 yard line up high, and at the SC game we hardly every had separation....our guys are good recs, but they are not elite like we have had in the recent past. Last year, we had 2 guys running wide open deep a lot....something is off with Lacy.

Also, Nuss looks different throwing the deep ball. I think they have beat into him to not risk interceptions, much like they did to Daniels in 2022, so when he throws a long ball he puts it where the dback can't get it, which causes sporadic accuracy trying not to make a mistake. He has done well 15 TDs with 4 picks....he got a little reckless yesterday with a big lead.
