You'd figure with the skillset that Perkins possesses they could figure out how to contain a mobile QB.

Hmmm, with a decent offense that couldn’t move the ball, our defense was damn good

Baker’s fine- he’s had to blitz a lot since our DE’s can’t apply consistent pressure.
Same with House before, it’s the players
We need to get back to getting high school kids instead of relying portal stop gaps. Portal players should fill in your roster, not be both of edges, all of your secondary etc.

OP is correct. New coach needs to replace Baker ASAP.

If you would study film you would see that the majority of the issues we had with running QBs is not scheme, it’s a bad angle, poor tackling, being in the wrong place etc problem. Just go back and look at film

This is the exact reason we should not fire him. The defense had a rough stretch of games after solid improvement last year and a tremendous start this year. How about we let him finish year 2 before we declare he cant coach?

It’s not that he doesn’t know how to defend a running QB, it’s that the lack of fundamentals and spacing becomes a massive deficit when the QB can recognize, tuck it, and run

This line of thinking is what got Kelly fired btw.

You would be correct if we had fired Kelly in November of 2023.

I totally agree. We're LSU and having an improved defense isn't good enough. We need to be the bully on the block and we're nowhere close. Last year, CBK even said if I was on the opposing team I would run the QB and opposing teams did just that and we had no answer. This year running QBs have torched us again and being the DC for a couple of years that shouldn't be happening.

Our most impressive win this year is against an FCS school that took a bus to the game on game day! That's embarrassing! We're LSU, period!

You should not just fire people to make sure you get your own people in.That was BK's first mistake. Everyone on the current LSU staff should be interviewed and several need to be retained (Not so fast Brad Davis! You can go!)

It dates back to his Mizzou days he simply struggles at it his reckless blitzes are exploited constantly against qbs that can run

You're getting downvoted due to the head coach needs to be hired first, but still a decent topic you brought up. IMO, LSU needs to replace Baker...clearly not the best DC that money can buy yet is the highest paid. Also, of course, LSU will have a new OC and Sloan was over his head in that position. You brought up the lack of stopping running QBs. Oh, and just because Weeks was out of the last two debacles, I believe LSU is still allowed to play 11 on defense. LSU looked like they were playing with 9 when the QB took off. And as someone else mentioned before, LSU couldn't get off the field on 3rd down and it wasn't just the QB running...it was the QB passing for 3rd and 9 and 3rd and 14. Someone used "3rd and Baker" and I agree. It brought back memories of "3rd and Chavis". If you can't get the other team off the field, I don't give frick that you did great on 1st and 2nd down.

IIRC, Kelly wanted to fire Baker and that’s a reason Kelly got fired…. Isn’t that what you said recently?
