I recently visited LSU and showed my wife the stadium and campus for the first time..I was shocked at how the outside of the stadium looked...tons of broken windows in the old stadium dorms...is this something new or has it been like that for years..it looks horrible..the University needs to fix the windows or cover them up or something..

Been like that for years. Aleva wants to improve the facade of Tiger Stadium. Not sure the timeline for that though.

Why doesn't LSU just renovate them and lease them for football season.

People have been suggesting this. Whoever would be involved would make a fortune.

Asbestos is usually the reason given.

It's been bugging me for years. We are good at building new buildings, but not very good at maintaining them. Joe Alleva has stated that cleaning up the outside of TS is going to be done. I'll believe it when I see it.

I hope they don't "clean up" the outside.
The rust and mildewed concrete gives it a creepy, haunted look, kinda adds to the intimidation.

My dad use to live in the stadium dorms back in 1956 and fixing them up to lease them out during the season would be a great idea

They had an article in the reveille about it last year. The projected cost of making the dorms livable was through the roof. It would almost be cheaper just to build a new residential hall.

It's not cost efficent. The cost of asbestos removal, debris removal, and bringing up to code would cost more than you could make renting them.

Remember that they were built before all the additional weight was added to the stadium and there would need to be additonal supports, etc to hold the extra weight of people living there.

There is also the problem that the University owns a portion of those dorm rooms, not the department. Not to mention it's a costly affair and we currently don't have the resources to place that much money into the situations considering how stretched we are with our other projects.

Alleva has said it was a priority and I have no doubt that it will be done in the next five years IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I love Tiger Stadium, there's nothing like it, but it is one ugly looking POS.

I love it. Sure it could use renovations but it's a great stadium. I love it because of the atmosphere inside, not how the window dressing on the outside appears. Sounds like an Ole Miss or Bama take, which is very gay Chatelain.

What additional weight was added to the stadium since the dorms were closed? It's my understanding that the upper deck doesn't touch -- can't touch, by state law -- the rest of the stadium. That is why TAF could build it without going through the state bidding process, etc., but to do that it had to be a separate building, in essence, not an addition to the stadium. Or am I wrong?

Not only that, but they would have to basically gut the entirety of the interior to make everything handicapped accessible.
