Supposedly, LSU ran those numbers and concluded they could never recoup the initial cost of renovating. It's more than just the asbestos issue, which by itself is awfully expensive to remove. You also have building code issues as well.

My opinion would be to do minor adjustments to the facade,leave it beat up and intimidating.It adds to the mystique of Tiger Stadium.Just make sure patrons are safe that's all.

LSU makes tons of money with copyrights and sales. they cant save this money and we should never build another stadium. in the end the best thing would be to make the stadium as beautiful as the rest of the surrounding buildings and also make those rooms functional some how. whether it be storage, rooms for rent, or offices.

The intimidation of Tiger Stadium comes from the team and the fans, broken windows just makes LSU look low rent. You can't ever have a serious discussion in BR about the +/-'s of a new stadium because all the "purists" are stuck in yesterday. 99% of successful athletes don't give a shite about tradition, they want modern facilities, ask one if you don't believe me.

"successful" athletes like a lot of stuff and Tiger Stadium is one of them. WTF are yall thinking. Tiger Stadium is the greatest football stadium in the country.

The athletes care about the tradition AFTER their careers, not before or during. I spent some time with many GB Packers of the '98 team that won the Superbowl in the Superdome. I am an old Packer fan from way back, I was surprised that so many of the players on that team had so little knowledge or respect for the great Packers teams of the past.
Players want modern facilities, not someone else's memories. Ask them on the way in, not the way out. You want to attract the best athletes, you do it with facilities.

The horse is out of the barn now, after the refurbs of the east and west sides, this is the stadium we will have for the foreseeable future. I wish serious consideration had been given to a new stadium before the 2000 east side redo. Moot issue.

The below is a guess, at best. Just from looking at the new seating, you can see that most of the loading is supported by free standing supports.

Most college stadiums are old. When the first big time program decides to build a new one, the dominoes will fall. Not likely to happen for several more decades, but it'll happen one day.

I gound this on Wikipedia about when it was built and why the housing was included:
The stadium opened the year after the Rose Bowl. I don't see it being replaced and I don't see Tiger Stadium being replaced--ever.

This is an interesting quote in the article. Back in the spring of 2000 I was in Baton Rouge visiting Coach Mac and other family and friends. While in town my cousin and I decided to take a stroll up to Tiger Stadium. We were walking around and noticed that one of the old rusty green metal doors that were located close to the Lawton Room was cracked open a little, so we decided to go in and take a look. Well we walked in and there was a star case going up. Well we walked up one floor and we went in the side door and it was the first floor of the dorms on the West Side. We went browsing through all the rooms on each floor and every room was just a dump. There were some old twin bed mattresses in some rooms we saw. The dust was so thick. We saw old shoes and clothes and it smelt pretty rough as well. We never saw any office space or cleaned up rooms that had any look of the LSU Athletic Dept using for storage space or anything of the sort. It was kind of fun just roaming through there and seeing some of the tradition but I told my cousin back then that LSU should clean the dorms up and make them into what has been talked about on this thread, and we both talked about how neat it would be if LSU actually did it. Anyways, that's my memory of the old dorm rooms. No question it would be a lot of work and clean up, but I still feel it would be worth it financially and for future tradition to do the work to get it done. My 2 Cents.

Stadium isnt much to look at. I think that stuff is overblown sometimes though. Talked to a couple of Bama players back in 94 and they said it was the worst locker room they had ever seen. One nameless guy said his junior high stadium was in better shape.
Open those rooms up as gameday condos. they sold like a mf here. It creates cash flow at the same time with food and alcohol sales
