he overperformed in 2022

underperformed in 2023

this team still has some gaps / holes... they missed out on a couple of transfers / NIL candidates the last few years

YET he's building the program the right way with high school talent. it will just take longer.

their insistence on forcing the run lost this last game. if they keep throwing, they win. at the time in the 4th, it seemed they were establishing the run but they just had 2-3 good plays. otherwise the run was not there.

Kelly is a fraud! Every Notre Dame fan is glad he is gone. He is far from an elite coach and makes questionable assistant hires - Sloan trash ??? and poulian the worst special teams coach in the history of organized football.

This was our shot! 12 team playoff, no Texas, bama and ole miss at home off a bye. USC who had the worst defense on planet earth last year is standing in the way. This season is shot and it’s a rebuild after that!

I said in a thread last night, but we need to let this thing play out over next 3 weeks.

What the hell will the next three weeks prove?
We beat overmatched teams that we should have beat

I bet you never once fricking complain in 2019 with Joe Burrow was doing this shite or anyone else on that team. You frickers are just retarded.

Who exactly is horrible and why? Was Joe Sloan horrible last year when he was calling those plays and not Denrock? Or was it Jayden Daniels was a second year starter who was a pretty damn good quarterback?
So I see post like this and I just think that is out to go and blame Brian Kelly when you all you had to do was look the fricking year before and four years ago with Joe Burrow and Company and that fat arse at O. Or you can go back further with less miles. The fact of the matter is, there is one off season incident this season but before every fricking year there was that includes in 2019 when your fricking best linebacker was sitting his fricking arse at home while the team was playing until the semester was over.

Kelly was hired to be THE GUY for the next decade and bring us multiple championships quickly.

Even though he has never even come close to doing so in the past? We paid for a name, and so far Brian is doing just enough to keep his seat cool.

No amount of salary paid to Brian will make him elite. In the future, we need to structure these contracts based on performance.

We needed Kelly. Like him or not he was a perfect hire at the time. Brought stability back to the program. He gets the benefit of the doubt for a couple more years.

The whole Y3 thing is an antiquated measuring stick that ignorant fans still regurgitate for some reason.

It's more relevant than ever with transfer portal and NIL

Saban Championship in year 4
Miles Championship in year 3
Orgeron Championship in year 3
Kelly Championship in year _____?

Thoughts on Kelly and state of the program

We're 2 or 3 losses away from being at 2021 levels of moral, unrest, and rage

The lack of discipline this early is concerning. Hard to see that getting corrected now that games are underway.

It can totally be corrected. I trust that it will. USC did all the same shite after every play sans the helmet and the gun. Those 2 things won't happen again

Where was OM in Kiffin Yr 3?
quote:

10-2 in years 2 and 4

I think this illustrates a point about scheduling beautifully.

Year 2, Kiffin went 10-2 (6-2). During the regular season, they played a total of two opponents who finished the year ranked: #21 Arkansas and #2 Alabama. They beat Arkansas 52-51 and lost to Alabama 42-21. Their best OOC opponent was Louisville, who went 6-7 (4-4) in the ACC.

Year 2, Kelly went 9-3 (6-2). During the regular season, we played 4 teams that finished the season ranked: #9 Ole Miss, #8 Missouri, #6 Florida State, and #5 Alabama. We lost to Bama, FSU, and Ole Miss but we beat Missouri.

So year 2 Kiffin:
Wins
#21 Arkansas

Losses
#2 Alabama
NR Auburn

Year 2 Kelly:
Wins
#8 Missouri

Losses
#5 Alabama
#6 Florida State
#9 Ole Miss

If you look at those records and think Kiffin’s year 2 was more successful simply because he went 10-2 in the regular season, you’re looking at this way too simplistically. The difference between LSU’s 9-3 regular season in 2023 and Ole Miss’ 10-2 regular season in 2022 is that LSU played 2 more ranked teams, and 3 more top 10 teams.

Ole Miss could have easily been 8-4 against that LSU schedule, and LSU could have easily been 11-1 against that Ole Miss schedule.

This were we will see how it shakes out. But based on preseason rankings, LSU had 5 ranked opponents on the schedule while Ole Miss had 3.

We'll be the best of second best.

Maybe less a reflection on Kelly than on the dumb arse retards we put out on the field.

Like literally don’t fake shoot at somebody, don’t take your helmet off on the field, and this game is a win, even considering all the other screw ups.

You are such a dumbass for conflating 2019 to what you saw Sunday.

Just a complete fool.

So your stance is that players can only do stupid things on the field if they're winning?

No.

I am saying that you can do get the gat or first down pistol, or whatever you want to call it. It’s still hey look at me and immature. It did not help the team in any way.

But You cannot point a fake shotgun two feet from a guys facemask and to compare the two as similar is silly.

To go back and brag about it at the bench is egregious.

Kelly is a good coach, not a great coach. My expectations were simply too high. I no longer expect Kelly to make LSU into a perennial top 10 football program.
