- I always thought a big reason Kelly couldn’t win it all at ND was he was never going to pull elite southern HS players to South Bend. But it’s possible he just flat out cannot win big games consistently.

- However, between Orgeron and Covid, it’s possible this thing was depleted in near totality that we’re still not fully rebuilt. I know patience isn’t our fanbase’s strong suit but this could be the case.

- Jury is obviously waaaaaaaay out on Sloan, but Kelly otherwise nailed his other coordinator hires. This 100% will help with recruiting.

- I said in a thread last night, but we need to let this thing play out over next 3 weeks. We lose/struggle at SCAR and/or have issues at home with UCLA? Yeah throw in the towel. Too early for that now.

He’s on the hook from here on out.

Undisciplined celebrations.
First down sign on every catch.
Hey look at me.
Undisciplined procedural calls.
Horrible play calling.
Horrible personnel.

8-10 wins and not coming close to a NC is what we're going to get with BK at the helm

It is what it is

That excuse no longer holds water 3 years in with the transfer portal era.

3 years in an we are largely in the same boat as Kelly's first season.

Other than our OTs, we haven't seemed to improve the talent anywhere on the field.

We are a 9-3/8-4 team and it showed. Probably should expect that going forward. Next year will be a whole new OL/maybe QB and will need WR to step up. Defense who knows but you have to think they won't be much better than this year since the Freshman DBs can't be expected to just show up and start.

It feels like we will always be playing catch up trying to rebuild this defense.

He plays not to lose in big moments. It was obvious with 20 min left in the game how this thing was going to end. He was going to hammer into Sloan and nuss that we don’t do anything risky with the lead, leading to us pounding obvious run plays into the teeth of usc defense playing for them.

And eventually after giving usc 4/5 chances they were going to wear down our improved but still suspect defense and score to take the lead.

And BK never moved an inch from that strategy until usc did exactly that.

I’m obviously not throwing in the towel. I think we’ll probably be 9-3 and miss out on the playoff. I don’t think BK will ever be able to win a national championship here.

1. I did not believe LSU was going undefeated this year. Georgia or Texas might do so but not LSU.

2. Wasn’t confident that the Defense would go from bad to elite in nine months regardless of new coordinators.

3. LSU lost two key receivers to the NFL. Plus Losing Jayden Daniels.

4. Hell of a schedule this year even if we had opened the season with The Citadel or Rice.

The lack of discipline this early is concerning. Hard to see that getting corrected now that games are underway.

I thought BK was supposed to be better than those guys…

Btw Sark made the 4 team playoff last year in his 3rd year at UT.

I think there’s some truth to the rebuild argument. Orgeron’s mismanagement, and frankly just bad luck with transfers and busts lead to the entire roster being depleted by the time Kelly showed up.

The secondary was hit especially hard, but it’s year three now and we either have guys who are too young or literally don’t belong in the SEC. After three years that should not be the case.

Also, penalties and lack of discipline in all three opening season games….this should have also been fixed.

The truest statement on the Rant today.....that's about as good as I see Kelly, too...

He (possibly) nailed the defensive coordinator hires on the second try. If he screwed up the OC hire with the co-coordinators, he's probably not going to get the chance to fix that. Kelly's tenure will probably be defined by the co-coordinator hire. If that turns out poorly, we'll have a couple more middle of the SEC pack finishes and he'll get canned or retire.

For perspective, it’s not like we’re losing these openers against Saban each year. We lost to FSU in Year 3 and 4 of Mike Norvell rebuilding from the Taggart mess. Lincoln Riley is rebuilding a program from Clay Helton’s mess.

Wide angle view, Kelly is doing great building the program.

More narrowly, there were some issues last night & they should have won the game, even though this team was never going to meet the expectations of fans.

The whole Y3 thing is an antiquated measuring stick that ignorant fans still regurgitate for some reason.
