No. He had Hannigriff to awkwardly interject with the correct call or explanation. And even then he would sometimes argue.

Alleva didn't carry out this search, LSU Sports Properties did.

Chris Blair is great and is a true gentleman. Jim Hawthorne was great and is a true gentleman. As far as some of Hawthorne's critics who use this site to trash him, gentleman does not describe those of you. Classless cowards would be a more appropriate description.

My biggest issue with him is that he expresses very little emotion when LSU scores. In basketball especially
How could he get excited watching LSU Basketball?

He's probably like watching Johnny Jones.....................

Football and basketball are faster paced sports where a more emotional announcer works better. Hawthorne>>Blair

Baseball is slower paced, with longer periods where staying level works better. More subtle nuances than catching passes or dropping the rock in the hole. Blair>>Hawthorne

I miss Jim, but then again, I'm old enough to have missed John Ferguson when he was gone, but Jim grew on me. Blair needs more inflection and enthusiasm for football games. Totally understand his lack of enthusiasm at basketball games, I blame our horrible coach for that

How the hell he stayed at Ga. Southern so long is beyond me.

Statesboro and GSU are actually pretty big with a whole lot of money.

Hail Southern!

My favorite line so far was on one of Fournette's 50+ yard runs. It went something like, "Fournette around the left side, follow him on Twitter cause you're not going to catch him...."

Found a clip of it

Dont know. Cant really listen to him since the radio stations refuse to sync their broadcast with the television broadcast.

He is a massive upgrade over Hawthorne. Actually calls the correct players name who scores the touchdown and his voice is much better

his enthusiasm can't be replaced

Hawthorne started in 1983 and until the last game still didn't understand the game to the degree he was still ignorant concerning penalties and yardage...especially the signal of the infraction from the official.
He was also totally ignorant of the history of LSU football.

That's why Doug Moreau has been so valuable all these years.

I am from the John "Golden Voice of LSU" Ferguson days. He was not only a decorated veteran but also what I would consider an LSU football historian. He brought something to the broadcast that Hawthorne never did......now flame away!!

Could show a little more emotion at times.
Never listen for football or basketball.
He is night and day better for baseball as opposed to Charlie and Hawthorne.

I was literally laughing out loud when I heard it. Wife was in the kitchen, which is where she was supposed to be, and I called her into the living room while I played it back. That one and the Spanish Tre White punt return call (obviously not Chris Blair) were my favorite ones in a long time.

He won't be at LSU long. I find him to be a professional. ESPN will be calling soon.

Haven't listened to be honest. These days listening to a game on the radio is really not necessary with the SEC network. I liked Hawthorne's style though, because it was more like a conversation. There's really no need to get every play perfect, because of the games that were only on radio weren't close anyway. And Hawthorne was great on the weekly shows. Have to say I just don't like hearing a generic non-Louisiana guy as the LSU announcer. It doesn't sound right. He may have better game-announcing skills but that's not the point. And I thought the in-depth interview he did with Canada was borderline ridiculous. How many OCs has LSU had in the last 10 years? Are they going to do that with every coaching hire? Sort of annoying. So I have no opinion of the new voice of the tigers, wasn't impressed by what I heard on highlights. I might tune it for a baseball game.

My thoughts on Blair- he has a very good voice and sense of timing, a top notch broadcaster.

Like others have said, radio guys aren't as important as they once were: unless you're actually driving (and sometimes even then ), you're going to be able to stream the video instead of have to listen to the radio.

He doesn't seem to have a lot of enthusiasm (yet), but I'd give him time; remember, he's in his first year here. He first has to get acquainted with LSU, the more comfortable he becomes with everything and everyone, the more relaxed he will get. He made sure he got it right first.
Also, this hasn't been the best year for the Tigers athletically- the teams bumbled around a lot.
