What are the rants views on our play by play announcer after his 1st football season? Thoughts on football announcing only.

I haven't listened to a football game since like 1999. But based on clips I've seen he seems fine, minus some one-liners that felt a little forced. I love him for baseball (yes I know you said stick to football).

Good enough I would say.

His baseball broadcasts sound like you're listening to an MLB game on a national radio station. How the hell he stayed at Ga. Southern so long is beyond me.

Yeah, he's awesome. Especially impressive considering (correct me if I'm wrong - I may be making this up) he didn't previously call baseball games at Ga. Southern. It's been a breath of fresh air as baseball is the only sport I ever still listen to on the radio from time to time.

I concur. I only listened to one football game in the car, and it said like I was listening to a national broadcast. Baseball was the same. When you think of what we listened to for 30 yrs. there is no comparison

He does do a good baseball game but I get the feel as if he is an announcer who is paid to travel to different places and call games. Someone like a Joe Morgan or Aaron Boone. While Jim was past his prime, his enthusiasm can't be replaced. I don't get that with Chris. I do agree on the forced one liners with football, I wish he had the enthusiasm of the Spanish play by play fella. But it is his first full year for all sports and maybe that true love and enthusiasm will come.

People were so used to Hawthorne calling a play "as it was happening" that they thought that was the way it was supposed to be done. The complaint I kept hearing was "there's a f***ing 1 second delay between the play happening and what he says!!!1!!"

But that's partly why Hawthorne was so bad with baseball and so good with basketball. With baseball, calling exactly where the ball is hit off the bat isn't always easy. Calling a play before an umpire does is just stupid. Chris does a wonderful job with this. Just get it right. It also didn't help that somehow after so many years watching it, Hawthorne still didn't have a clue about baseball in general.

His voice sounds amazingly like Jim Hawthorne's voice. He's done a great job thus far.

He's very good. One of the best around imo. Still strange to not hear Hawthorne but Blair is a great replacement.

I think he's doing a fantastic job. I like to listen to the game on the radio and watch on TV when something big happens. He has a great voice and I hope we keep him around a long time.

Could be Alleva's best hire.

Props to him. But also sad.

I'd rather have Mario Jerez, call the games. That guy can get you amped up.

Agreed. Hawthorne is an LSU lifer. Blair's not quite there yet, had no previous ties to LSU iirc so it'll take some time but he'll get there.
He seems to have done well so far with the weird cajun names!!

I enjoy the heck out of him. He's solid, prepared, it seems, has a great voice.
I hope he becomes just a bit of a homer, that's the point of your school's radio broadcast, to get your guy who knows the team and coaching staff better than the national guys.

I listen to parts of almost every game on radio, so I'm glad we got someone who is good at what he does, and not so dispassionate that you don't know what's going on or who he works for.

It's maybe because he was never an LSU fan before? It was Hawthorne's life.... of course he was more passionate.

And I guarantee Chirs will be as the years go by as well.

Holy cow! Blair needs a different, more exciting signature exhortation. "Oh my" is pretty lame. Other than that, I like him.
