Thoughts on call to go on 4th down late in 4Q?

For reference, we had the ball on Florida’s 30 yard line, within FG range faced with a 4th & 1. Roughly 3:30 left on the clock.

We ran it with Williams and converted. Then had to kick the FG shortly after.

I feel that this was an aggressive call. It worked so no criticism per se.
But not converting there would have really sucked, as they would have had 3+ mins to score a TD to tie.

Thoughts?

You go every time there with the way Williams was running.

It was 100% the right call. You go for it 10/10 times there on the road

I liked the call because our offensive line was dominating.

It was the right call. With our special teams issues we were statistically much more likely to gain a yard than make that FG. We were forced into kicking one around the same distance due to 2 dumbass false starts in a row when we only needed 2 yards to ice it but I believe going for 4th and 1 was the correct decision considering how our special teams has been this year.

Normally, I wouldn’t like it, but in that situation, it was okay.

Obviously, since LSU made it, it worked.

it worked so it was a brilliant call, CBK has made a few Les Miles type bonehead calls/moves/clock management gaffes so far in his brief time here but in this case the players made that one look good

Kinda in no man's land. Probably out of high % FG range and if you over-punt it buys you like 10 yds of real estate.

I think it's parts of Kelly's process. In the coming years, he may take the points but he's trying to instill that trust and toughness that this specific team is needing to build. Along with the fact that we're going to need to extend some of those drives against the teams we have remaining to possibly steal a win somewhere. I feel like he's gotten this team to a point where they think they can be a 9-3 or 10-2 team. Just making it through the season with a little progress has already been achieved if we keep playing they way we have.

OL had been pushing Florida around all day. And, the confidence in kicking a 47 yard FG wasn't as high.

It was a reasonable decision.

With Cade York you kick it. With Ramos, you go for it.

Ever since Kelly got to BR he has promoted conditioning and dominating the fourth quarter. Why would you not go forr it? Why not show your team what hard work brings?

I was pissed because CBK should have challenged the spot of the previous play. It should have been a first down and It was an OBVIOUSLY a bad spot of the ball. I am glad that he has balls and went for it. The O line did their job and Williams was on fire.

It means we do not have much confidence in converting a 47 yrd Fg. Plain and simple.

I didn't like it like I didn't like the 4th down pass play Vs MSU that worked. Nobody questions them when they work.
But I was there in that endzone last night and did not like it one bit.

Young unproven field goal kicker at that point. It was the right call.

We had this discussion last night. I liked the call for one exact reason. It showed Kelly had confidence in his players. You trust them boys to get you that one yard. It showed that he believes in them. And it payed off.
