Thoughts about Finebaum's coverage of LSU and the State of Louisiana

Here is my commentary about Paul Finebaum’s coverage of LSU’s football team and the State of Louisiana. Paul’s coverage of LSU stopped sounding like balanced analysis and became increasingly personal. In my view, he repeatedly amplified the harshest possible outcome, treating speculation like a foregone conclusion. I also thought those comments helped create a narrative that rival fan bases were more than happy to repeat. But repetition does not turn a narrative into a fact or the truth. Then the outcome failed to match the build-up, and that matters for credibility.
Over the years, Finebaum made a living as a “talking head” by criticizing coaches, players, schools, and fan bases. Yet, when the criticism turns back on him, he can appear defensive, dismissive, or eager to move on, as he sometimes does with callers on the SEC Network. He talks big behind a microphone, but that toughness seems to disappear when the criticism is directed at him.
Moreover, his criticism became unnecessarily personal. During a television appearance, Finebaum mocked LSU President Dr. Wade Rousse by saying he was still in a fetal position in his mother’s basement. To me, that crossed the line from serious sports analysis into personal ridicule. When commentary reaches that level, it raises legitimate questions about professionalism and objectivity. Personally, I think this style of coverage rewards outrage, attention, and clicks more than balanced analysis. He also said negative things about the state of Louisiana's leadership and its citizens.

Paul starts talking around the 7 minute mark or slightly afterwards..
Paul, LSU fans like me across Louisiana heard you loud and clear. Your coverage has made your position very transparent. We do not need your approval. We do not trust the way you framed your stories about LSU and the state. Your opinion carries far less weight among many LSU fans in Louisiana than you seem to think it does.
Finally, before I wrap up this commentary, here is my message to you:
F@CK YOU, Everything You Stand For, and STTDB!
Geaux Tigers.

Got nothing to do with it. He's from Tennessee and ensconced in Birmingham media. The SEC Office, Alabama and Tennessee are the major Players behind this nonsense

well stated. Paul Finebum is a worm and there is a reason why he only allows redneck hillbillies on his show....because it is the only way he can sound even reasonably intelligent by comparison. Don't think his producers don't understand that very well. PF is just a fraud by any definition.

Media is profit driven, based on viewer engagement, and nothing engages viewers more than conflict and controversy.
And before any left or right-wing nutjobs try to turn this into a political thread with your replies, kindly frick the hell off back to the Poli board. Both sides (all sides, really) are guilty of this and nobody should be pointing fingers.

Yep. His angle & thoughts are the SEC office's thoughts & handed down to him.
When he said "Lane has no idea on what the SEC has gathered on him over the years" like a political party & media would have on an opponent was so over the top.
I always knew he hated La & LSU but I never thought it was this personal. He really needs to be fired after the things he has said about Verge being an Uncle Tom, calling Rousse's Mom a terrible parent, to saying LSU & La were rogue, banana republic, lack of instructional control, Landry runs everything, LK answers to Jeff Landry & also dogging Kim Mulkey & Will Wade too.
He said some other terrible things about us than I can't remember now. Perhaps someone can do a post with all of those vile things.

LSU should refuse to give him media credentials if SEC Nation plans to come to BR this year

Finebaum approves of this thread, and every other thread started about him on this website

There is one sure fire way to avoid Paul F.........
Posted on 9/11/26 at 12:37 pm to terriblegreen
and the funny thing is when he shows up for SEC Nation and interviews the coaches and AD and changes his tune dramatically when doing it all in person
it's so freaking fake
it's so freaking fake

Didn't some commentator get hit in the head with an object at some kind of gameday type event at LSU years ago?
I'd like to see that happen to Finebaum.
I'd like to see that happen to Finebaum.

Hadn't watched or listened to Pawl in years.
I guess I'm ahead of the curve.

A biased crying child whose prognostications reliably and consistently never materialize, and yet he refuses to own it. He knows nothing about football, yet bloviates constantly. He’s dumb, arrogant, childish and a weasel of the highest order. Nothing he says should ever be taken remotely seriously.
