The wiretap and federal case is what makes this whole thing so unusual and tricky though.
-Wade cant discuss with his employers because then that becomes discoverable in the court case. Not meeting with you employer when asked to do so in any scenario generally frowned upon. Cant blame Wade for not doing so but also can't blame LSU for what they did.
-Wade just can't simply artfully explain away the language on the wiretap. I know there's a lot of amateur Perry Masons on here but testifying under oath in a federal case is a big deal. If its proven his testimony is untrue (and unlike NCAA, Fed govt has subpoena powers to prove things are untrue) he could face perjury charges.
- Wade can't just plead the Fif. You have the right against self-incrimination but that only pertains to criminal activity. Paying for recruits isn't criminal activity; it's a NCAA no-no. You also cant say I plead the Fif because if I do testify I'm going to lie and that could lead to perjury. Doesn't work that way.
I love the guy and I hope he's here for a thousand years but he is in a really tough spot.
Thanks for the clear analysis. Too bad our admin could not recognize the situation and before they reacted so hastily to media reports.

Seriously. It could have been an offer that he would meet with and recruit another family member, friend or classmate. Nothing wrong with that.

You don't REALLY believe the crap you just posted do you?
They did it to placate the media...why not fire him if they know it was REALLY BAD?????

I need potentially the best BB coach ever to walk through the doors of my alma mater to be coaching. Not suspended for no legitimate reason.

If you will please put a positive spin on the phrase “one hell of an offer”.....doctor.

What he says is "I don't recall."

It just doesn't make sense LSU would do this to our amazing BB team otherwise.

I'm not up to speed on that story, are you being sarcastic?
Posted on 3/12/19 at 2:50 pm to Irish LSU Fan
There is no way an AD would fire a coach and suspend an athletic team solely on the word of a crack head hooker. Right? Right?
Posted on 3/12/19 at 2:54 pm to GumboPot
Still don't see any collusion in the allegations.

Waiting for the NCAA to investigate and publish findings. Then LSU will be in a solid "legal" position to terminate.

Good points that could also be made in Alleva's defense.
The moral of the story is, don't jump to conclusions, allow time for all the details to emerge.

This is my point....JA has certainly learned a lesson from his mishandling of the Duke issue. I think LSU knows a lot more about this than what has been reported in the news.

I’m clearly not an attorney but maybe one can give some input. I would imagine that a federal subpoena in a very broad and high profile case like this one would include a gag order of some kind. Maybe it wasn’t just Wade’s attorney but the feds making him keep his mouth shut. Possible? Probable?

Even if you do know without any doubt, if you can't provide proof, then it doesn't matter.
In a court of law, yes. That is not how the NCAA operates. All they need is a discussion of an offer being made.
Now, the University can go on the offensive and deny it all day, paint the NCAA as the antagonist, and place the blame on them for the circus that goes on under their watchful eye. They then go to the media with the same reports but make sure your story has zero holes to refute.
Also, don't have a cuck in charge.
