I get it. But it seems we use too many negatives on ine play. The biggest is the rb being at a dead stop waiting for the equivalent of a draw play.
We are at the 2, and handing the ball on a delay draw, out of the shotgun, 5 yds behind the line....on some of the plays.

Sure seems opposite of what sgort ydg plats should do.

I’m sure the hope was to keep it pretty vanilla, but we made it very easy for LA Tech to run the defense they wanted. They typically only rushed 3 or 4 with an occasional 5th added. But they were stacking 7 or 8 at or within 2 yards of the LOS on many plays. They dared us to go deep and we only attempted to a few times and really only hit one.

If a team is going to keep that many in the box, they will always outnumber you in the run game. Even when they drop guys out, with them being that close to the LOS, they can quickly redirect to support the run. 8 on 5 or 6 just doesn’t work. You HAVE to make them pay enough to at least back the Safeties up. Then you can get 1 on 1 with a TE blocking.

If other teams try this, we have to scheme up and hit them with a few intermediate and deep shots to force them out it. Attacking the edges with designed rolls, zone reads, jets and bubbles can also help if they are keying hard on the inside.
