For this season, a 4 team playoff works very well, but we were but a single game (or two) from having all kinds of controversy over the 4 seed. Here is all we needed for that to happen, and none would have been upsets:

Utah beats Oregon (or even less surprising, Oregon beats AZ State), and/or Alabama beats Auburn. Under this scenario, the Committee would have had to pick between Oklahoma, Oregon, and Alabama, with all of them having a single loss.

Don’t you feel like Georgia and Oregon have no business being in the playoff?

Because that would be your 5 and 6 seeds in a 6-team format.

We don't need college players having 16 games. That's too many.
FCS teams would have to play 17 games to win the national championship (16 games if it's one of the 8 teams that get a first round bye).

I've never heard anybody complain about it.

It’s a waste every year. I have never seen a season where there are 8 teams that truly have a chance at beating the top 4

you don't think a 5-8 seed could ever beat a 1-4 seed? Good lord, man.

I realize this year is pretty unique in that there are 3 elite teams and then a drop off.

But many years, teams 5-8 would be very, very good. Any given Saturday, you know. That's what makes playoffs more exciting. Besides, each year is unique, and we don't know where the cutoff will be. This year, the clear cutoff is 3 teams. Next year, it might be 5. The year after, maybe 7.

We just don't know, so expand to 8 teams, give conf champs an auto bid, and then invite 3 more.

Not necessarily this year- I just think it would be good to have the 4 power 5 champs and one wildcard that can be ANY of the other teams in d-1. Of course, 90% of the time it would be a 2nd SEC team.

The first 2 have byes and every game is hosted by the higher seed until a neutral site championship. This keeps the regular season vitally important (does LSU want to travel to Penn st in December?) It also allows more access without overdoing it.

Remember, a lot of years aren't as cut and dried as this year as to who the best 4 are.

I like 6-8 with the wildcard format. Make it like the NFL where the top seeds get a bye and home field, closer to home advantage

My post earlier in the thread...

I’ve always wonder what a 6 team playoff would look like. Have the bottom 4 play it out, with the top 2 off with a bye week. The lowest seed advances to play the 1, the highest seed advance to play the 2.

1 LSU bye week
2 OSU bye week

3 Clemson vs 6 Oregon
4 OU vs 5 UGA

This is the best possible version

Must be a conference champ to be 1 or 2

Why does more football make you angry?

If you don't like the games, don't watch.
