True. But there was no shortage of people saying we aren't making a regional, this team is terrible, Mainieri, Dunn and Gibbs should be fired post haste, etc. Let's not act like there were just a few posters expressing concerns. There are LOTS of people that deserve to be called out for totally quitting on the team.
The bumping of those threads is fine because it's funny to read how far off the cliff some people were going, but these threads just feel like your patting yourself on the back for not being a moron and knowing there was still a lot of baseball left to be played.

Yeah a well-timed bump is pretty hard to beat

The Super Regional didn't come in until 1999

Keep in mind that this ain't about you, it's about the Tigers. Nothing is worse than seeing a bunch of "LSU" fans post about how we will end up Major Leagueing it eventually...
Posters that contribute nothing to making lsu baseball a better program are talking about what kind of success they will accept.

We are to baseball what Bama is to football and UK is to basketball. Should be winning natties every 5 years or so and making it to omaha damn near every year

The "Haha you were wrong about this team" threads are getting just as old as the "this team sucks, fire Mainieri" threads were back in April.

Cosmo , you are absolutely correct and absolutely clueless, but don't feel bad you are part of an elite group clueless "experts" that grace this site. Lol

the big question is "is this expectation realistic?". baseball is different from basketball and football. although I disagree with you mentioning Kentucky; they don't win titles every 5 years and frankly, neither does Bama (only in the bear Bryant and saban era do they do that). with only 7and three quarters scholarships, even small schools can put together great teams. AND, pitching is so big a part of the game that any school that gets 2 great pitchers suddenly become a player at the top.
everyone has their own opinion and skip bertman damn sure met your level of expectation but, imo, NO BASEBALL COACH in America can perform at the level you set. in the SEC, LSU is the equivalent of bama and kentuck but on a national basis there are just too many other great teams every year (not the same as the previous year tho).

To add to what you are saying LSU GrandDad (not contradict):
"Expectations" are different in reality and how they are spoken about for fans versus being on a team. For LSU the goal will be to win the championship, obviously. Being on a team you have to tread lightly when talking about expectations; often qualifiers are used. For LSU a coach or teammate may say "we expect to at least host and win a super regional" because that is a stepping stone to the goal.
But I digress... from a fan's perspective only. Let's use what many consider the greatest CBB program of all time, USC, to determine realistic expectations.
USC has 12 championships over a span of 50 years (1948-1998). An average of 1 every 4.2 years. The longest gap between them is 20 years (1978-1998). The shortest gap in their heyday is a 5-peat (so 0), 1970-1974. Yes, maybe the first (1948) and last (1998) need to be thrown out as outliers here, but it is what it is.
In the 10yr gap between championships in 1948 & 1958 they made the CWS 3 other times (2 of 5)
In the span of 1959-1969 (prior to the 5-peat series) they made the CWS 6 times with 3 championships (3 of 6).
After the 5-peat (last in 1974) up to 2001 (most recent CWS appearance) they won 2 championships with 5 CWS appearances (2 of 5).
Total of 21 CWS appearances, again 12 of those were won for championships.
So what is unrealistic of us?
To go to the CWS every year:
unrealistic. Best program of all time pulled of 5 in a row, which is amazing but worth noting did not even make the CWS the year before that series (1969) or after (1975). So the best streak ever was bookended by not even getting to Omaha.
Win the championship every 5 years:
I'd say unrealistic expectation but a reachable goal (if USC can do it, why can't LSU... been done before). To be realistic I'd say maybe get to the champ game in Omaha every 5 years at most, maybe get to Omaha and win first round every 5 years.
Again, I'm not saying these should be team goals. These are fan expectations I'm speaking to.

I buy 5 season tickets and two parking passes every year. An annual outlay of close to 2k contributing to the betterment of the LSU Baseball program.
Aside from being a rah rah internet a-hole, what exactly do YOU contribute to the program?
