Wade’s attributes:

Recruiting +
Hard working +
Intelligent +
Program management +

Motivation + or -

Gameday coaching -
X’s and O’s -

This team makes a lot of bad basketball decisions. Today they were pressing and there were several points where a timeout would have been useful to calm the young players down.

That's the great thing about basketball. This kind of loss doesn't really hamper your post season positioning IF you learn from it and when these kinds of game going forward.

It's tough to tell if he's trying to let the kids figure it out on their own or if he's just not good at those things. I think as the season plays out and we get into the postseason that we will find out more about his in game coaching.

No way you can justify Water's pass. It was a long pass (almost half court) and he was throwing it with three Arkansas players at the goal. That is not a high percentage play and is an example, once again, of Water's trying to do the spectacular when we needed the slow, steady play. You work some time off the clock and then get it into one of your big men.

That's a better play because it is a higher percentage shot and they could get fouled even if they miss. If they get fouled and make it then an old fashioned three puts us up four points with no way to lose. Worse case scenario and we miss and they rebound, we can make a quick foul and still get the ball back with a chance for a three to tie or win.

We had a couple of good shots that last possession. The time out thing doesnt bother me. Waters throwing that bad pass doesnt bother me either, it was a heat of the moment mistake. What bothers me is getting down 18 in the first place. Too many empty possessions before that run, we should have won tonight. Oh well, big shot at redemption next week

Yep....we get caught up in the closing moments of a close game and forget about what happened getting there.

What about it is wrong?

Being selfish to not care about situational basketball. My eighth grade players understands that situation. Waters still is not mentally ready for the pro game. He has not learned to value the TEAM's possessions. I don't know what it going to take for the switch to click in his head.

How did we get back in the game??? Driving and scoring or getting fouled and making them. We can’t shoot the 3 well enough to rely on it any night. 3 made a really dumb play ther and the 3 by Smart the possession before was stupid as well. WW should never leave with two timeouts in a game under those circumstances. Never

While it wasn't the best move, all I can think about is how the PMAC would have exploded had the alley-oop been successful.

Geaux Tigers!

Not trying to beat a dead horse here but the quote from WW supports what a lot of us were saying:

On Water’s alley-oop attempt…

“I probably should have called a timeout and got us in a set there. Tremont’s going to make the right play nine out of 10 times. He's our guy, and we trust him.”

I agree, the play was open, Tremont just threw a bad pass. Thing is he's been a bit off on his alley oop passes of late...remember the one he threw to Taylor at his knees but Taylor saved him? And there have been a couple of other. I think it reasonable for him to maybe take that into consideration, but you're right, the play was there.

NOT CALLING TIME OUT:

I've always been of the mindset it helps the defense as much or more when you call a timeout as the offense there. Teams practice end of game all the time, and ultimately we got Naz right uder the goal for a shot he IMHO should have made...Smart was open on his too. Not calling a TO was no issue at all for me there.

You're right.....it was completely idiotic beyond words. You milk the clock down in that situation and maybe drive to the hole drawing a foul or something...you know...like getting a high % shot.

sure, and the PMAC would’ve also exploded if Waters just shot the ball from half court and made it.

it’s not about getting a crazy crowd reaction, it’s about playing smart and understanding the game situation, and that scenario didn’t call for a high risk, 45 foot pass.

Should have ran the office. Gafford was fouled out. Take more time off the clock.

With gafford fouled out it was not the smart % play. we had been taking it to the goal and getting fouled. maybe could have gotten 3 point play the old fashioned way. Or if we miss get the rebound and run clock or go to foul line. I won't say it was stupid but it wasn't smart given the circumstances. If it is a good pass it slams but that is not what happened. As far as the timeout, I'm 50/50 on that but if you don't call it you better have a point guard that is going to make the right decisions based on the current situation. .

Point 1 = Wrong

You don’t play a 2 for 1 possession game with the lead. You work clock down and drive and get fouled or dish to open shooter.

I disagree Mick. In most circumstances, you should use the 2-for-1 to your advantage. It's an extra possession, and that almost always is beneficial.

Of course, there are exceptions. But in most cases, a 2-for-1 is the smart play.
