re: The Waters pass was not dumb, and not calling a time out isn't a bad call

That’s exactly why you don’t try that pass. You saw how far off target he was because at that distance if you’re slightly off the ball sails and you end up with what you saw tonight.

it was a horribly thrown, ill-timed pass.

Video looks worse than I even thought the tirst time. Defender waiting for it when that would be hard to execute from there without a defender. No excusing that decision.

Thanks.
Yeah, I was dead wrong. It was a terrible pass, but it was also defended. I missed that in the heat of the moment. Poor decision and poor execution. My mistake.

I’m fine with trusting Taylor to catch one over a flat footed defender. Maybe not with thirty seconds left.

My whole thread is a fraud. Watch the video posted. It was a terrible decision.

In all fairness...Waters was just trying to make a play. Soon as they got the ball over mid-court was a good time for the head coach to get involved. Easy for me to say sitting on the couch though.

It looks a lot different from floor level right?

Yep. I was wrong. No doubt

The biggest issue is the timing, he threw the pass with 22 seconds left on the shite clock. You had the lead you milk it as much as possible that way you put extra pressure on them for their possession as well as intensifying our defensive effort. You saw when they scored we kinda played soft because we knew we’d get it back with plenty of time. All of that goes out the window if you leave then with as little time as possible.

What is an easier 2 points than a wide open dunk?
And 9 times out of 10, they connect on that play.

Sure you can say, call a time out and set a play, but calling a time out also let's the defense reset.
We still had a couple of VERY good looks at the end. Couldn't ask for much better. Just missed them. It happens.

It’s crazy Marlon almost gets to this ball

Nah, I don't agree with that.
Assuming it was an easy basket, it was the correct decision to make (it wasn't as easy basket, so clearly wrong). But, best case, Arkansas was getting the ball with 15 seconds. That's plenty of time. We score there, we are up 3, and have time on the clock after an Arkansas possession.

Throwing a half court alley oop with a full shot click when youre also playing against the clock is the definition of dumb. A half court alley is hard to do if youre the only 2 people on the court.

That’s bad clock management, when you’re up you want fewer possessions not more.

Not saying you're wrong, but I don't have a problem forcing a 2 for 1 there. They're likely going to get the ball again down one possession, regardless of what we did.
And to be honest, milking the clock in college ball usually ends up with a contested perimeter shot with one or two ticks left on the shot clock, no matter what the coach dials up.

Arkansas was getting a possession, with plenty of time, almost no matter what (except for an offensive rebound). The extra possession would have belonged to LSU.

But not in this situation. I agree with you college coaches start milking clock way too early for the most part but that doesn’t apply here. We had the lead there’s no need for a 2 for 1 situation, you get the best shot possible if it goes you’re golden if it doesn’t you dig in and get a stop. You’re leaving the door open for multiple scenarios by jacking it up early.

What extra possession? If we go down to 15 seconds they get 1 possession and that’s it.
