No, no they werent. We had 39 scholly players and a WR @ starting qb before we hired Kelly. Not to mention a culture of straight arse. Attitudes of me first, dont give a frick, no accountability had completely taken over.

They were not worse off than LSU. People dont realize what was left by O.

LSU fans have to much pride to admit CEO left us in bad shape. We still see ourselves as National Champs, but we’re in full rebuilding mode. We need to trust the process CBK is implementing.

Agree. What championship did Tennessee win this year? Our fans are reactive after every week

How do you think he got Hooker on his roster retard? Did he not heavily contribute to his development? BK is not known as a great QB developer himself. Hell, most of his QBs at ND were mediocre at best. It certainly doesn't give me optimism he targeted a guy like JD and actually thought he could mold someone as raw as him into a competent SEC starter this year. Maybe that says more about Nuss than anything if he looked at him and MB then said yeah, we need something from the portal. Not giving good vibes towards someone like Collins coming in either.

The point still stands though, with LSU's resources especially scouting they should have no problem finding what they want from the portal to see the results next season. Why we suck at finding QBs? I don't know why. We've always sucked at finding QBs and OL for some reason. We can figure every other position out but when it comes to scouting these we always whiff big time.

I’m sure we will still bring in key guys to fill spots, but what we don’t need to do is what Kiffin is trying at OM. We need a huge high school class this year to build a sold base for a consistent future. We need to transition to just filling spots via the portal. I’m sure we will still need several this year, but the balance needs to move back in favor of recruiting and so far, that’s what it looks like we are doing.

As for OL, we just had our best class there in a decade and this one may be as good or better. They aren’t missing there. It’s just going to take time to build from where we were. Frazier was a good portal addition even if he’s been just ok in year one. He has time to develop or may become a decent depth guy if others beat him out as we improve.

What QB was out there last year? We really weren’t looking for a QB until after signing day wrapped and we had Brennan back and Howard signed. Dart may have been off the board by then and Daniels seemed like a decent fit for what Denbrock ran with Ridder at Cincy. Maybe there will be one this year, but I’m betting Kelly puts his chips behind Howard. He wouldn’t have brought in a kid with program ties if he didn’t intend on playing him next year.

What ?! Is the season over and I missed it? So now Tennessee is the flavor of the week? And what if they end up losing 3 games? What if after their QB leaves they drop back to 6-6? You guys absolutely amuse me.

If they're putting all their chips on the table with Howard next year we're going to lose a lot of games again. He's going to be very good but not next year good. I doubt he's ready. They will need a transfer portal guy for 1 year if Nuss hasn't done anything development wise.

Dude got lucky. QB he wanted was a bust and the QB that came to be the backup has taken off. What happens next year?

“I don’t think people realize the train wreck Ed left. “

This is gonna be the title of a book written by some pumper to console other mediocre loving pumpers 5 years from now when we’re still fighting to get over the 9-10 win hump.

We did and have no choice but to see what happens in Year 3 to 7.
Bk is not going anywhere for at least another 6 seasons after this year.

Whoa UT just paid some HS QB millions...they got resources but BK needs to match that with his own recruits

bullshite. The refrain that our cupboard was bare is a myth. This team was ranked as having the 8th best roster from a talent standpoint by 247 Sports. So, stop with your excuses.

It’s a risk either way. I get the concern, but I don’t think they will do it unless someone absolutely sure-fire is available. You aren’t getting anyone of that caliber to come in to potentially be depth behind someone with program ties. They also aren’t going to jeopardize Collins’ commitment for the future, so any move would likely be after signing day when some guys who are moving are already off the board. Not saying it won’t happen, but I just think they are going to shift toward keeping “their guys.”

You do understand that we actually had more scholarship players than the 39 who chose to dress for the bowl game?

Last year in the SEC Tenn beat Missouri, SC, Ky and Vandy.
This year they are better, but both wins were against teams with new coaches.

Before we anoint Heupel let him best Bama, Ga. or get to Atlanta.
That will mean more.

The 8th best roster doesn't start 2 freshman at both tackle spots while starting 2 sophomores at the guard spots while having an unathletic center

Name One RB on this roster that will be playing in the NFL 3 years from now?

Certainly the 8th best roster would have one NFL RB and some quality upper classmen lineman

Chose to play should tell you something. Too many quit on their team.

Not saying the roster is perfect, but it’s not the doomsday roster some here profess. I simply provided a source to support that LSU does have some talent. We have plenty of talent not to get blown like we did yesterday.

Ummmm, that's the point. Tenn was run into the ground over a long period of time and Heupel appears to have reversed that damage in just his 2nd season.
So the standard is something that Tenn has had like 5 coaches to try to get and we are not halfway through the season.
