It is the best system I've seen. It stays there the entire AB. It's accurate. I see no negative to it.

Are they headed in that direction of using a version of this for ball/strike calls

It's accurate but all it does is show that the umpire is not. I thought I would like it at first but just seems to frustrate me even more.

The ump can't see the box, fyi, fwiw, IMO.

When I watch softball, that's not the box I'm thinking about

I wish they would use it for more than just the CBS in softball and baseball.

So what? Umps are really inaccurate. They could just manage the game and make all the other calls.

It's bad for the softball umps because it shows how bad they are. I've watched some of the games and softball umps are far and away the most inconsistent Group I've seen at any level.

First pitch Hoover three was literally right down the middle at the belt and was called a ball

Thisbump absolutely sucks, especially on that outside pitches she calls strikes (our viewing right). Shevlines up to far inside and doesn't see the pitch is outside

If you are referring to last nights game vs Mich I don't agree. The overlay was put in the right place but the centerfield camara was so far off center that it gave a false indication of the lateral position of the pitch. I think this would be better if you centered up the camera. I was appalled at the lack of calls on the low strikes last night so perhaps the elevation was an issue too.

I thought it was odd that the zone calls often did not agree with the umpire call yet I never saw any grumbling from coaches or players... If the calls were as bad as the on-screen disagreements then I would have thought some arguments or complaints would have erupted.

the ump should be dismissed and just use the box for strikes and balls

Arguing balls and strikes at any level gets you tossed pretty quickly.

If you wanted to take the strikezone out of the ump's hands, it really wouldn't be too hard. Motion sensors at the plate aimed up to see if it is over, inside or outside. A pair of sensors aimed from the sides (you could cover both lefty's and righty's that way), that synch to something on the batter's uniforms.
That would create a hard, 99.999% accurate strikezone, something you could not argue.

It just wouldn't be in the spirit of the game; perception of the pitch is part of the allure.

ESPN has this technology during their MLB broadcast as well. Don't remember if they had it for softball last year. Just think of it as a 1st down line in football. It's just a graphic and not always accurate

It's not accurate. It's not showing where the ball crosses the plate, just where the pitch is caught.

Doesn't seem to have much correlation with what the umpire is calling.

Wrong. It shows where the pitch crosses the plate, NOT where it's caught.

Absolutely, I never appreciated how good the MLB umps were till I watched LSU/Michigan last night. that poor gal was off more than any I've ever seen by a long shot. Gal doing LSU today much better but still....
