Trying to figure out where the intent to begin the slide was is stupid and ambiguous

It’s not ambiguous because it’s not “intent”. This is not the saints fumble/pass play.

Slide is down as soon as the hip drops, pretty specific and objective.

Gonna address some general arguments now…
quote:

“He slid late, QBs fault… hit wasn’t even late”

Begins his slide 5+ yards away from the defender

Also literally knee down by traditional rules on a normal play… 3yds away from defender

quote:

It’s not targeting

Lol… shoulder straight to the dome leading with the head, with some helmet to helmet contact (although you don’t necessarily need helmet to helmet for targeting). Clearly targeting.

Egregious long-winded celebration afterward… after giving up the first down… while the dude’s entire future is legitimately in question…

Why would any of you even try to defend this lol

I’m actually the opposite of the OP, I think sliding protection should be completely removed. QBs are runners now. The plays below show how hamstrung the defense already is because of “QB protection”

Nobody will ever do a 4 yd airborne slide...ever.
We had multiple QBs doing fake slides……Which is why the rule is what it is now
