The Rivalry Gauntlet Effect - LSU is tops in CFB.

I am the first to admit that LSU lacks a mutual top-level rivalry that has the legacy and intensity of the absolute tops in all of CFB...
Ohio St vs Michigan, Texas vs OU & Alabama vs Auburn, as 3 examples, that are all on a higher rivalry plane than any single rivalry that LSU faces each and every year.
HOWEVER...
That doesn't mean that we lack the collective/overall "Rivalry Gauntlet Effect".
Indeed, LSU is comparable, or arguably exceeding, any other school in CFB in this Rivalry Gauntlet Effect.
Note the number of yearly rivalries LSU has:
1) Bama - speaks for itself. High stakes and lots of shared disdain.
2) Florida - it's gotten super nasty & intense.
3) Auburn - Sooo many "barn burners", end-of-game miracles, & earthquakes to select from.
4) Ole Miss - Sure, it is historical, but the mutual disdain persists. The hate is For Real For Real.
5) TAMU - Is there any fanbase you just want to see humbled more than the Ags. Geez, they are as bothersome as it gets, and we are their Alabama in many respects.
6) Ar-kansas - The Boot is not as mutually cherished, but it has a rivalry flair in its own right, no doubt. They can make their season by beating us, and few teams bug you more to lose to.
Sorry, Moo State. You can ride up occasionally, and are not to be overlooked, but the mutuality of rivalry lacks special citation. Maybe one day...
In the collective, it is arguable that the "Rivalry Gauntlet Effect" on the LSU schedule, over the course of each and every season, is the highest in all of college football - even though we can't offer any single game to the highest level for a year-in-and-year-out rivalry (like the handful of college footballs highest rivalry games.)
Agreed?

I’d say let’s build up the A&M game. That could be our best rivalry. No one cares about Arkansas enough and everyone else on that list has a bigger rival
Also who cares about rivalries? Just beat whoever you’re playing

Nice list but I’d put aggy ahead of ole miss.

if you live in texas, you really grow to dislike aggies. they're incredibly annoying

You don’t have to live in Texas to dislike those little boys

Some people don't see Ole Miss as a rival due to the recent total ineptitude of their football program, but I still hate them and want to beat them year in and year out maybe as much as or more than any other team. And in every sport, too. I just hate Ole Miss. I respectfully hate Alabama and kind of view them as a real rival these days (though we haven't held up our end in several years now), but I straight up disrespectfully hate Ole Miss.

If A&M continues to not play Texas then this will become our biggest rival.

I love the fact Texas is on our schedule. imo we should play much more often than we do. The recruiting ramifications would be monumental if we could take care of these two on a regular basis.

I've said this for a long time.
No one gets how hard lsus schedule is. It's the hardest in cfb every year for one reason.
Every fricking sec team we play except Georgia missu and SC circle us on the calander 15 times. We're everyone's favorite team to beat.

You could probably only say that about Ar-Kansas.
We are everyone's 2nd favorite team to beat.

I'd actually put it right behind Florida. That rivalry got spiced up a lot last year.

I'll be cliche...

I’m sorry but LSU doesn’t have the hardest schedule every year. Auburn has a much harder schedule this year on paper.

Correct... Auburn has a brutal schedule............

This game will be one of the biggest in college within 10 years. Similar fan base support quality recruiting grounds plus close enough proximity to make it a Fantastic rivalry. It’s only a matter of time.

Good post, but I don't think of aTm as a rivalry at all
Ole miss and arky are rivalries, just not very competitive.
Bama, auburn, and UF are the ones that matter year in and year out

FWIW, the term "rivalry" is pretty broad. Just because Bama considers Auburn their biggest and vice versa, that doesn't mean LSU isn't a rival for each. Others discount a rivalry because one team has dominated the series for a while. That doesn't mean it isn't a rivalry. Some teams don't play every year. That doesn't mean it isn't a rivalry. You have annual rivals, traditional rivals, cross-sectional rivals......
Ironically, you noted 6 of the 7 teams that LSU plays every year as rivals and not Mississippi State - the one team that LSU has faced more than any other.

It used to be a hell of a rivalry in the 60's & 70's. My dad was a cop in Beaumont in the 60s and he said they would set up on I-10 after LSU played in College station and write tickets to every car with Louisiana plates. He said they would do the same to texas people on the La side of the border after A&M played in Baton Rouge.
