Traffic. Really the only answer.
Posted on 7/1/18 at 10:03 pm to Crop Dusting
1. Traffic
2. Atmosphere (no longer organic - pumped in music)
3. Tailgate (back to alcohol, good food and big TV's)
4. Product (more with Miles but was frustrating)

So true about fans from the 80’s and 90’s. Way simpler times and less stress. It was a way different vibe back then.

While I love and enjoy going to games both day and night but preferably night. I think the big reason why people leave is alcohol. Who wants to be drinking all day get a good buzz or even hammered then just stop drinking and start yelling.
Don’t know about y’all but have done that before and the headache you get is unreal. Serve beer until the end of the third and you will see more people at the end.

Then other people just have no desire to fight the traffic the crowds and terrible overpriced concessions along with long bathroom lines....its just easier to stay home fire up the grill with a cold one and watch it on that big flat screen tv...than fight all of the above
Finally ticket prices and donations have run some people away...and the pay to park to tailgate has also done the same
This is me. It's not worth the hassle to us anymore. We just invite friends over and cook at home. I've probably been to 2 games in the past 7-8 years.

Tiger Stadium is freaking hot which is why we prefer night games. Take in the fact that concessions suck, TVS are outdated and the lines are outrageous, the game experience is better from your tailgate or your tv. TS has to improve their experience for the fans in order to keep them there all four quarters minus big games like vs Bama, Auburn etc (those games stay packed regardless).
All of this.

Traffic + "life is busy" = early game leaving.
I understand this for parents who’ve got kids with them at the game or need to get home for their kids, but why the student section empties out is beyond me.
I don’t think the issue is that the games are too early or go on too late—it’s that games are 4-5 hours long. You can watch three goddamn soccer games in that span, halftime included; baseball games don’t even have a clock and you could watch a double-header of two short games in that amount of time, or even an extra innings game; 18 holes of golf; two hockey games; two fricking marathons; or a Magnus Carlsen chess game.
I stay for the entire game, win or lose, but the duration of televised games today is absurd.

agree completely....this is my biggest complaint. There is now a full hour of commercials during a normal game and all of that dead time really makes the game move slowly. sitting there bored to death for 10 minutes at a time while I know I have an hour in traffic and then a 3 hour drive home after the game just wears on me after the mid point in the season.

..and traffic is brutal.
Stay until the end and you will be home maybe 2 hours later, and that’s for the people who live in the area.

I'm watching a yankees game now and they're up 9-0 and everyone is still there.
The Yankees and the Red Sox is also one of the oldest rivalries from any sport in our country. Using them as an example isnt very fair. LSU vs Bama is no match for the hatred those two organizations have for each other and have had for over a Century

The Cherry, combined with all the other annoyances, make it no longer an enjoyable experience.
Cancel that "Calling Baton Rouge" BS too. Old and worn out. It makes the traditional GBFTL pre-game performance anti-climatic!

The product on the field has simply not been fun to watch....for a LONG time now. Play football to win....all the time....and people will stay. Play for something in November.....for a change....and people will stay.

Yeah, that's not it...you can drink in TS if you want.
The real reason is half or maybe more folks that attend games really are not passionate about LSU football, they are just there socially and really are not invested in the outcome as most of us here are.
It's just that simple. They are there for the party not the game and will take the first chance they can to leave and go to the next party.

Traffic, Traffic, Traffic .. and the consequences thereof.
i.e. the lengthy drive home (time wise)...many have left children w baby sitters, others have a substantial drive to get home...thus try to get a headstart

Beer will keep me at the game once I’m in but it’s not going to motivate me to go. The traffic, shitty concessions, ridiculous prices, awful parking, burning heat and lack of tailgating has taken its toll on the fan base. Add in the subpar product and you get this:
They’ve ruined the game day experience IMHO. It’s only getting worse under Alleva. I can’t believe they’re doing corporate tailgating now.
Only one thing could restore some of the passion- winning big.

but why the student section empties out is beyond me.
Student section gets pushed into a corner with shitty seating, fuching ridiculous lines and people wonder why they leave. Also we haven’t been good- no one wants to go watch team that’s fighting to stay relevant.

1. TRAFFIC AFTER THE GAME
TS is built in a corner with the river blocking egress on one whole side, then the bottleneck of downtown BR on the north, and two lanes leaving to the south, with mediocre mid-town roads weaving out to the east. When the capacity was 78k, leaving wasn’t so bad. But now, the new capacity at ~100k has pushed leaving into a consistent quagmire. With any big, relatively close game now, not leaving early means people in the west side lots will not get out of the lots for at least 1 hour, meaning they won’t get on I-10 for 2 hours, and home to Lafayette for 3 hours or to Lake Charles for 4 hours. Late ESPN games mean getting back between 3 and 4 am. Then throw on top of that the Halloween fund raiser they have by Pastime the whole month of October, and gridlock occurs. Contra Flow? That’s only for the genius politicians. One possible solution for those from the west would be for LSU to provide lots on the west side of the bridge with ample buses, which then could be privileged to utilize contra flow going in and leaving. That would limit cars coming in AND take advantage of open contraflow lanes.
2. DAYTIME HEAT
Hanging around all day and then paying top dollar to endure the heat are likely the prime reasons that LSU football has been a nighttime tradition.
These are absolutely the reasons why a multitude of friends from west of the Mississippi either leave early or decide not to show up at all.
