re: The reason why most LSU fans leave at half

An earlier thread eluded to this as well......
The "average LSU football fan" has changed since the institution of the "tradition fund", higher ticket prices, parking costs, etc. The overall cost of attending LSU football has pushed "bubba" out of Tiger Stadium and replaced him with those who leave early (for all kinds of reasons). "Bubba" (LSU fans from 20 years ago), would generally not leave early because they loved LSU football too much. It's not the heat (it was just as hot 20 years ago), it's not alcohol (fans have been drinking/sneaking booze into the stadium for years), etc.

The fan base is totally different now than it was back in the 60's 70's and 80's....some of its due to tv and day games, the sec network having every game on and the internet. Also today's fan base is way to much of the wine and cheese crowd...some of the true tiger fans of the past have died off.. Then other people just have no desire to fight the traffic the crowds and terrible overpriced concessions along with long bathroom lines....its just easier to stay home fire up the grill with a cold one and watch it on that big flat screen tv...than fight all of the above Finally ticket prices and donations have run some people away...and the pay to park to tailgate has also done the same
The fan base is indeed different. I also remember the late 60's, 70's, and 80's fondly. I held onto my tickets until the mid 90's. The crowd had changed to the point that it was not conducive to bringing young children. As time as progressed, the TS experience has regressed. Consequently, some of us decided to save our money and stay home where it was more comfortable. The nickel and diming of every little thing has been a big turn off. The experience is just not as good as it once was, and I doubt that we will ever go back there again. Times have simply changed too much. Others can have the seats, and from what I am gathering, the waiting line is not what it once was.

real reason is half or maybe more folks that attend games really are not passionate about LSU football WRONG!
Honestly, I don't think that statement is wrong...I think it's dead on.

I am "bubba" - but the traffic issues which have indeed gotten and get worse every year - have caused me to say to heck with this and I leave early - I used to stay till the end of even rent a win blow outs - to see young players play - but now.... it's all to accessible after the fact....... made it from jordan hare to hotel in montgomery after staying till the end of an AU / LSU game - faster than I can make it home in BR....

lsu/br can do something about the traffic they choose not to.... also the additional 100k people on campus for game day that do not go to games muck up the traffic and parking tremendously -this 100k did not exist prior to 2003

Subway vs LSU parking/traffic

've noticed a lot of gaps in ALL stadium crowds. It is a wimp nation now.
Especially for adults with kids, it's a big deal going to an all-day event (of any kind) and getting home in the a.m. And especially with a wife and kids, convenience matters alot.
I can watch every single LSU game (and a dozen others) every Saturday on my flatscreen HD TV at home, with all of the conveniences.
That doesn't make me a wimp.

Folks don't want to fight the traffic. Access/exit road system is horrendous around TS. I mean who wants to get mugged sitting in gridlock.

quote:I don't disagree. I just think all this is being over analyzed. You know what to expect if you go to a game. If the reasons people are stating why they leave at half is true, then why even go? Just save your money, buy a nice tv and enjoy sports from tv at home. Does it really matter what other people do at games anyway? Do what you want to do. And if that is leaving at half, please do..
If you disagree, try stating why you disagree.

Oh bull shite. “Bubba” needs to get off his broke arse and go to the stadium on game day. I have yet to go to a home game where there aren’t tickets available. I’m so sick of hearing about the true fan and the little guy not being able to afford a game.
They basically give tickets away at most games.
Bubba is in his double wide watching this shite show on TV just like the “big shot” who leaves at half to watch the rest of the game on his big screen.
Bottom line is the games are too long, amenities too sparse, and performance of the team to poor to keep asses in the seats. This same phenomenon is happening at other venues and other sports. Go and enjoy yourself and quit pissing and whining about what everyone else does. Only thing that effects the outcome is the performance of the players. And that’s on the coaching staff.
To that point, best of luck.

Those who leave early are not REAL fans

These pansies drink all day talking about how they’re going to the game and ready to kick some arse.
Then proceed to leave at halftime when we are only up 10 bc they can’t handle their shite. Smh...

Correct.
And when you add the fact that LSU has done nothing to improve the GameDay experience and then scraped the bottom of the barrel to hire a head coach, it's not a real mystery why people with kids opt to have house parties where the kids can run around and you can watch the game on a 65 inch screen instead of having to deal with all the bullshite.
